head bolt sealant
i need to take care of my leaking head bolts........
is it ok to take them out and put back in one at a time? or should i loosen all then retorque in sequence. do all head bolts thread into water jackets or just the lower ones? |

I would go ahead and pull the heads and replace the gasket also. If you back off the bolts there is a chance it could damage the gasket. it might not happen, but is possible. Secondly no not all the bolts go into the water jackets. For sealant I would use permatex #2 on the threads, and make sure you run a tap down the holes and clean the bolts. any junk on the threads can affect the torque. On the bolts that dont get the sealant use a little oil as the torque specs are what they call "wet".
