New girl with 72 Chev

Hey all,
I am new to the forum and I am seeking help with the 1972 C20 Chevrolet Pickup we just bought our 16 year old son. I have searched the internet like a mad-woman and cannot find any replacement parts for the C20 Under bed Cargo/Toolbox. I grew up driving old 68-72's on my dad's farm as farm trucks and we did not have the toolbox option. The toolbox is in primo shape with the exception of the latch...any ideas, websites, etc. would be REALLY appreciated. Loving reading the threads and seeing other Chevy Truck lovers!!

Much Appreciated,
Murphy Girl

welcome Murphy. the toolbox option isn't common, but you've come to the right place. If you post a "WTB" (want to buy) ad over on the parts section, someone will probably come to your rescue pretty quickly. I know there were some doors for sale there recently, not sure about JUST the latch. LMC Truck sells the locks for the toolbox, but if you need the actual latching mechanism, you'll need to find an original part and I'm sure you can find one here.

Hi MurphyGirl, welcome from Central Florida!
The Stowage doors and hardware are a tough nut because they were rare and most rusted badly. The parts pop up from time to time on the parts board.

It may have slipped your mind but she can't post a WTB because she is not a premium member. Your name has to be blue before you can post a want to buy, for sale, what's it worth, want to trade, etc... anywhere on the board. If she sees one for sale in the classifieds forum she can buy it, but that's it. If anyone reading this wants to become a premium member just click on the word "Subscribe" in the menu bar above and sign up.

Re: New girl with 72 Chev

Thanks so much for the info....will get subscribed when I get home. However, do you think I will even have a chance at finding the latch for sale or should I seek out a custom fabricator, or any other suggestions are appreciated? The truck was recently painted so welding it shut or any other suggestions such as removing it are not viable right now.
Thanks!!

welcome murphygirl, do a little brousing on here and you might find one , or some one will chime in tool box options are neat , but they require mantaince from the rust and eliments , usally the doors and latchs are missing , here is one link I could remember , don't know if he will sell in pieces but dosent hurt to ask , once again welcome

Truck is a bit dirty....and the orange is a piece of carpet that the previous owner slid in there, and not rust. Need the latch mechanism only. Door and hinges are in great condition. Do not want to seal this thing up permanently.

If you can't find an original, maybe you could fab one.

Re: New girl with 72 Chev

wow, that looks in good shape , im sorry I didn't read the whole post didn't relize you just needed the latch , like litew8 stated , you might be able to fab , or have a welder bend a new piece and ad to like a harbor or reading utility truck bed type latch handle , but the pic you posted , it looks solid , most of them get rotted out
