Rear disc brakes on task force
So, I'm still researching my disc brake project and I just had a thought. I have only seen one rear disc brake kit for the 55-59. My thought/question is if the front disc kits/brackets will work on the rears? Might be a stupid question, but I really don't know. Any advice would be helpful.

Re: Rear disc brakes on task force
there are (or at least used to be) a bunch of disc brake conversions for the GM 10-bolt and Ford 9-inch rearends... I used one probably 10 years ago or so on my 72 Blazer. not sure about the TF-specific axle... though it seems like if you knew the bolt pattern of the drum brake mounting flange (front and rear), then find a rotor/hat combo you would be able to "make" something that would work...
I already had power brakes on the 72, didnt change anything about my MC or add any residual valves and she stopped on a dime when I was done. If I were going to 4-wheel disc brakes, thats where I would start looking. hope that helps ... a little.

Re: Rear disc brakes on task force
Thanks. Does anyone know if all 10 bolt rear ends are the same?

Re: Rear disc brakes on task force
Not all ten bolts are the same but I am not sure about the adaptability of rear disk on them. If you don't have a rear axle and plan to go 5 on 4-3/4 ten bolt a late 70's Camaro/firebird rear might be a good choice. The late 70's Cad Sevilles that look like Novas on steroids have disk brakes on a ten bolt but the gear ratio is mid or low twos somewhere between 2.0 and 2.5. Not much for performance but you could cruise at 80 all day long without working even a mild engine.

Re: Rear disc brakes on task force
I really like my truck rallies, so I don't really want to change axles unless it's a 6 lug posi unit- which would probably be more expensive than buying new wheels and tires. :-) Might have to look into more options.

Re: Rear disc brakes on task force
if you were closer I'd give you my 6-lug 10 bolt that I just took out... there should be a fair number available out of older blazers and whatnot for fairly cheap (75.00 - 100.00)

Re: Rear disc brakes on task force
That's very nice of you. What year Blazer should I look for? Thanks.

Re: Rear disc brakes on task force
I am pretty sure this one came out of one from the 70's... I would imagine the 1/2-ton pickups, blazers and suburbans have the same rearends, just different gear ratios

Re: Rear disc brakes on task force
OK, I pondered the six lug thing when I got drug off track by the 10 bolt thing.
A front rotor for a 72 K 10 Chevy might just slip over the rear axle flange but you would probably have to have a spacer ring to center it on the axle hub so it is centered off the hub. If this works there should be measurements http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...0062&ppt=C0009 You could check the 73/87 rotors to see if they might be a better fit. Several 4x4 after market suppliers sell simple caliper brackets that use in putting disk brakes on the back of trucks intended for off road use. Check this thread out, It's a year or so old but the rx4 guys throw out some good info in it. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=567996
