fleetside backup light location
ok guys, I have back up lights that I want to add to my fleetside but need some help to figure out where to cut the holes! I know somewhere or someone has to have a graft or something! I looked in the for sale thread and seen a nos backup light kit and it has a paper that you put under the tail light and mark holes and what not! that paper should be copied and added to the faq thread! any help would be great

Re: fleetside backup light location
check the 60-66 FAQ Index, look under Beds.

Re: fleetside backup light location
I did look there! I was hoping someone might have the template that tells you how far down below the tail light to mark the holes! I know the hole that you cut is a round hole with two notches in it for the bolts

Re: fleetside backup light location
Well, you would probably have a better chance at getting an answer in one of those threads... as some folks with important knowledge may have subscribed to a thread... and it will be brought to their attention... and they can add it to the pile.
Not all of the folks who REALLY know about our trucks peruse the forum everyday... It's the wonky way forums work sometimes is all. Carry on. (if someone has the correct answer, that would be really cool, for the fleetsides and the step sides.) -W |

Re: fleetside backup light location
One of the templates I lost after my truck was assembled. I made a plea in previous threads to share templates and instructions. I'd be willing to be the guardian to save and mail copies like I do with the templates I do have. Sorry I can't help you more.

Re: fleetside backup light location
if someone can scan it to pdf, I can make a CAD template with a scale to ensure size accuracy.

Re: fleetside backup light location
Actually, a scan or a copy can be somewhat out of scale.
What you posted will work good enough for a rough draft. Then I'll use my set of 66 fleetside bed sides to check for placement accuracy of the template. I'll then create a pdf template with a scale like I did for Captainfab's Power Steering Adapter Plate Template. I'll post here, both the pdf and CAD file as an attachment, when I get it done.

Re: fleetside backup light location
Sorry, I forgot all about this thread.
If someone could bump this thread after the holidays, I'll make some time to put the template together.

Re: fleetside backup light location
LostMy65; Thank you! I'm going to need this template as well.
On another note, has anyone changed the lens covers to amber and turned their backup lamps into turn signals? |

Welcome to the forum. I am not 100% sure but you may be able to just put in an amber bulb if that is what you are going for. |

Re: fleetside backup light location
4sp or 3 sp manual? My 4 sp stick has a lever at the bottom but the switch is missing. The wires come out to it. I've jumpered them and using a toggle switch in the dash that the previous owner had used for headlights because the floor was too rusted out to operate the dimmer switch. Can't remember where the source comes from but may look tomorrow when it is supposedly going to warm up. Maybe look online for a 66 wiring diagram and it should be there.

Look in my link truck literature then scroll for the Accessories Installation Manual. The instructions forr the back up lights is listed. Company smart phone I can't copy & paste.

Re: fleetside backup light location
Toggle switch or if you have a 4sp floor shift you could connect a micro-switch so that when the shift lever goes back or up it makes contact with the switch. 3sp column you might be able to make a micro-switch work through the linkage on the transmission.
