cam for lq4

hey guys i need yalls opinion on a cam for my lq4, its going in a 84 c10. i have the engine tore down replacing bearings and gaskets and was thinking of porting the heads now that its open and as well put in a cam to beef it up a little bit.

You probably want to include a ton more info or call a LSx cam company (Texas Speed, Tick, Little Jon Motorsports)

I do agree with the above post...call summit or texas speed or Brian Tooley, and let them know about your set up and what your goals are and they will spec you the best cam for your particular application.

I have a 224/230 114 cam in my LQ4, it has some sound to it but sometimes I want it to talk more. the 212 cam will hardly be heard but will give you increased torque.
Just depends on what your goals are.

228 228 588 588 112+4 will work perfect on an lq4. Milling the heads .030 will definitely improve all around hp/tq

Hop on YouTube and search for 212 or 228 cam videos. You can definitely hear the difference and go from there. It depends on your truck purpose and how choppy you want your idle.


Go to the link in my signature for some of my projects that have cams in them. They go from mild to pretty radical. Especially the sound of the new cam in the dark blue GTO.

3200 stall with a small cam is not really a good match. probably a 228ish cam with .580 lift on a 113 or 114 would be what u are looking for. not too big but big enough to be happy with.

In my opinion, you are going to want an earlier intake valve closing point to get dynamic compression up as the lq4 is a bit lower static wise to start with. An earlier ivc is also going to keep the rpm band lower which is better suited for the truck intake.

I can give you a real suggestion later. It would be based off comp cams lobes. Essentially you would call them, give them the intake/exhaust lobe number as well as intake center and exhaust center.
