Reddington- My 60 SWB

Thought I would take a moment to introduce you to Reddington. He is a 60 SWB I found on CL out of La Grande Oregon. Nearest I can tell he was an old farm truck that a pretty rough life. On a positive note, the cab of the truck is remarkably solid. As for the bed... well that's another story. When I got him he barely ran, nothing worked, and everything absolutely filthy. I popped the valve cover off to find 5 out of the twelve push rods bent into pretzel shapes. Swapped all of them for a new set, rebuilt the carb, dumped all the old gas out and now he actually runs pretty good. After stripping out the bench and cluster and it took 2 sessions and a gallon on Super Clean to get the interior clean. You could see the brown nicotine stains dripping off EVERYTHING. So gross.

After rewiring the front and rear of the truck he is back to being road worthy. He made home under his own power last night and everything seem to be just fine. As I drove along he seemed to run better and better. Tranny seems smooth and quite. Clutch is good. Brakes work great. Still much work (and cleaning) to do but I super stoked to have him on the road.

Enough with the babble. Here are a few pics!

Awesome find on the 60 short bed. Very cool that it still retains the original caps.
What are your plans for the truck?

Nice truck and I like the stance. Are the rods cranked down or has it been switched over to coils?

Re: Reddington- My 60 SWB

Thanks for the props folks! Yeah, its still on torsions. Plans are to lay it flat on the ground (air). The stock wheels, caps, and rings (16x4.5's for sale) are being replaced by a set of Cragar 69 Delux with bullet center caps and and lugs.

As for the 6, not sure what will be its fate. I am a V8 guy but it did come with a Ellis Duo-Power dual carb manifold. If I can get it run right it could be fun with a set of Fenton Headers and maybe a set of Lakes.

We'll how this all plays out. Time and money will make all the decisions. LOL

This after one (of which there were two) Super Clean and Pressure washer sessions. There was sooooo much nicotine stains on EVERYTHING. It dripped brown.

thats was saved for the hard times when you ran out of smokes, so you could just lick something in the interior when you had a niche for nicotine

What is your plans for your interior? Are you going to keep the same color or change it to another? My 62 had the same color and I had the same problem when I washed the inside. Nicotine was everywhere in mine. Looking good!

Thanks again for all the props folks! I usually buy these trucks to turn but I think I found a keeper!

There was certainly enough to go around! LMAO

Interior plans are to make it clean and comfortable. Fresh paint, sound deading, newer bench, full set of gauges (it happen to come with a deluxe cluster in the extra parts), carpet. I want the inside to be super fresh and clean but leave the outside battered. My only trouble is I am struggling with color. The stock black/silver really does nothing for me. Leaning towards white or an off white.

Re: Reddington- My 60 SWB

I went with light drift metallic from dupli-color. It looks good and clean and most of all it was cheap. Here is a pic of the interior color. Sorry one of the pics is bad but you can get the idea. I hope this gives you a option. The seat cover is from Classic chevy and it is super easy to install.

I am giving consideration to a beige. I really like what you have going there. I am going to need to rebuild my bench. All of the springs are broken on the drivers side of the seat. [sad]

I had to do the same to mine. You might get lucky and they all are still there all you have to do is weld them back together. Good luck!

Man, I really like this truck! As much as I like hot rods and modified stuff, there's something about your truck that makes me love it just like it is, all the way down to the wheels and caps. It's got a really cool vibe that really hits home for me. I would have a really difficult time changing anything on that truck! Maybe a little lower all the way around and a wider rim in the back and add a rear bumper.

Already been in there. Many are missing. I have an upholstery guy that can help me with some universal springs that I will weld in. For now I have an old pillow stuffed under there to hold me. It's doing the job. LMAO

Thank you. Yeah, I can 100% relate. This is the exact reason I feel in love with him.

He will go in stages. First up, a new set of shoes.

x2! Just a bit of an altitude adjustment & rear bumper would do the trick. But it's your truck, & you get to play around with it.
