Side view mirrors _ not stock

Looking at mirrors for a 56. Prefer a non stock mirror on both sides. Kind of hot rodish and higher tech. Looked at civic and mini cooper mirrors - dont know. There has to be someone that has tried a bunch or mirrors on these trucks. Would like to stay with one that was made by a existing car manufacturer. They seem to be better quality and can swivel if bumped.

Ideas? Pics?

I noticed that a lot of these hot trucks do not have any side view mirrors. What up? How do they drive these? Cameras?

Re: Side view mirrors _ not stock

It seems when my truck was built in LA, CA, back in the eighties, there were junkyards full of Porsche 944s, because seats, mirrors and an electric sunroof were all installed on my '57.

Click on my avatar, to enlarge the photo and see the glass side.

The mirrors are heated and electric adjust. I use small round stick-on convex style on them, too.
My mirrors could have been placed better, but I use the inside rearview for all but backing up.

I found a passenger side replacement on Ebay for $50 delivered.

It's one of those "style" choices that a lot of guys make but in this state you have to have two rear view mirrors on your car or truck or face a ticket. My daughter got out of a ticket on her old beater with no inside mirror because it had two outside mirrors. She pointed it out to the Stater who had puller her over "1 on this side, one on that side equals two with two required".

As far as the style of mirrors you run, they have to fit in with the whole build plan for the truck and blend in with the rest of the truck as part of the package. I'm not a big fan of the mirrors Highsider showed but on his panel they blend right in and become part of the whole truck. You see the whole nice looking panel all at one time and then start checking out each and every detail one at a time with not a one screaming "look at me first". That is the way any and all rigs should be built. If you don't see the whole package and instead one thing hits you right in the face it's done wrong.

I agree. The problem is that you can take an old truck and make it too new looking. Many of us here are trying to take an old piece of crap and make it something special; something you can count on; art work.

Take for example these two trucks. I really like they way that they blend newer fashion with an old truck. I know that they are not for everyone though. They both dont have mirrors. I would be curious to see what would look good with these. I wonder if they tried different ones and just decided that they like it better without.

I am looking for the right mirrors because I plan to drive the demons out of it. Driving it without mirrors would be too difficult. I find that I rely on them quite a bit.

Ogre: Your truck is perfect. Your choices on everything look great and everything flows.

How about these mirrors? What are they?

Re: Side view mirrors _ not stock

they look like typical aftermarket mirrors you can buy from autozone
replacement mirrors for many typical 60s and 70s cars
they usually sit too low and close to the body, they are hard to see in a truck
the pass side mirror has to be farther out and located right to be of any use
