Body Bolt Help

Hi All,
After I finish the motor wiring I will be ready to start assembling the body on the frame.

Has anyone here ever put together a write up of bolts, sizes, etc for all the body bolts?

I have seen some of the stainless steel kits for $350 or so but wondering if me just buying them all here locally will save me significant money?

Thanks!
Chuck

Re: Body Bolt Help

I have not bought any of my screws or bolts online. I start at the local real hardware store, then check online to see if Fastenal carries the unique ones. If they do the local store will either have them in stock or will order in specific quantities (no buying 100 to get 30 you need). So far the prices have been less than the aftermarket guys. As I said in your other thread, there are not that many different size bolts on these trucks. When buying the complete kit, you are paying for the convenience of not having to inventory and chase them down yourself.

If you don't have a good local supplier, Bolt Depot has an amazing selection. You can buy sets as well from them in different grades. Their service and shipping are excellent.

Re: Body Bolt Help

like midlifer... i bought most of my ss bolts from boltdepot.com and saved a bunch over buying local
boxes of 100 nuts, bolts and washers cost me a lot less than the kits of 66 bolts from vendors
i used ss truss head bolts for fender bolts. big headed phillips head bolts
buy as many as you can at one time, shipping can eat you alive if you forget this and that
home depot is getting a better selection of grade 8, grade 5 and ss bolts for those occasional purchases
i didn't track how many trips or my cost of hardware from home depot, i shudder at the thought

Re: Body Bolt Help

Thanks all, I guess I am trying to find the following:

What do I need to put on the cab, front fenders, hood, front bumper, step side, on a 1951 Chevy 3100

Has anyone actually drawn out these bolts? That way I can just go to the local store and pick them all up
