How common is stainless windshield trim?

How common was the stainless windshield trim on a 60-66 truck? I don't recall seeing many with it.

Re: How common is stainless windshield trim?

Agreed....I see 10 times the number of trucks without than with. I'm one of the guys without, and I would like to be one of the guys with the stainless windshield trim. Haven't seen any aftermarket, but that doesn't mean I've looked in all the right places.

Its not reproduced, but they commonly pop up in the classifieds and ebay for around $125 a set. Requires a different gasket than the standard glass as the trim fits into the windshield gasket and is installed as one piece with the glass.

Re: How common is stainless windshield trim?

Mine came with the "thin" stainless trim, the thicker trim covers almost all the black from the gasket out and might be more desirable. I do see them listed here on the forums and ebay once in awhile. Another issue with the trim is that it makes the windshield install a little harder, one person inside the truck pulling the gasket over the flange an two people outside holding the trim in the gasket and the gasket on the windshield worked the best for me.

Re: How common is stainless windshield trim?

I rarely saw the trim when these trucks were new since most were just considered trucks and rarely got any of the fancy stuff. I put the wide trim on mine, and it is indeed rare now as I believe it was only offered in 60 & 61. The nice part of the early wide trim - it is much easier to repair and knock the dents and dings out of as the shape allows access to the rear of the trim face. Some areas on the thin trim are flat against the backing, making some repairs nearly impossible.

The start of the skinny windshield trim project on my truck begins on page 6, post 149 of my build thread. The wide trim project starts on page 9, post 212.
