Exclamation Converting to 3 on the tree transmission 283 350 v8 HELP!

Ok so i have a 65 SWB step side with a 350 and Th350 trans. I want to convert it back to 3 on the tree. (I have started dressing the motor to look like a 283) but I'm am getting the run around on what parts i need. Mainly what size clutch and what transmission i need. I want To keep it as correct as possible for 1965. I have sat here for hours and have only become more confused, some places say its an 11" clutch, others say its 12". Yet another says 10.5"(which I'm sure is wrong) . Dose anyone have pics and/or solid info of what trans and clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, starter etc...i need and would be correct for a 283 with 3 on the tree? Preferably from some one who owns/has worked on a v8 3 speed truck. But any good info, pics or part/casting#s appreciated.

Re: Converting to 3 on the tree transmission 283 350 v8 HELP!

10.5", 11", and 12" clutches all work. Most (I think) run an 11", which is what was standard for a 292 six or 283 V8 (230/250 used a 10", and the 327 V8 had a 12").

Standard three speed was the Muncie SM318, with a (rarely seen) Borg-Warner T98B being an option.

Bellhousing and starter go together, and these trucks came with 168 tooth flywheels.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

BTW, I'll get some numbers off stuff if you want, but most of this stuff isn't even really visible to begin with. If you have any specific pictures you want, just let me know and I'll try to get some tomorrow.

You will also need the frame mount for the zbar, the zbar, block bellcrank stud, zbar to clutch fork rod, 2 shift rods and the clutch pedal to zbar rod

Re: Converting to 3 on the tree transmission 283 350 v8 HELP!

Would defiantly be interested in hauling off an unwanted trans and the crossmember that bolts to the bell housing if the year and price is right
