Safari windows on AD truck?
Well, as the title implies, I want to modify my front windshield(s) to operate as safari windows that hinge on the top and articulate out like an old VW Bus. I had thoughts of buying a kit for a bus and just figuring out how to modify it, but I think that there is probably an easier way. Has any one here ever done it?
Thanks, Nik

Interesting, just do it I guess. No one else has so it's all you. I thought about making my corner glass roll up and down, still may, I may just do it.

Re: Safari windows on AD truck?
I guess that I'll have to just jump right into it. I can maker he window frames easily enough, as well as the hinges and latches. I guess what I really have to figure out first is the rubber seal. I'm thinking maybe granger.com? Anyone have ideas for places to buy "universal" rubber window seal material? The safari kits for buses are high dollar. There's gotta be a window seal that would fit that's designed to have glass seal against the outside of it, instead of in it. Off the top of my head I'm thinking about the old Cessna I use to fly. It's side windows hinged at the top and articulated out. Hmmm

Do a google search with the term "y630p", that is a part number for aftermarket door weatherstripping. It will return a bunch of places that sell aftermarket rubber.

So I figured, this is a "concept car" theme.... Harley Earl would have put roll up windows, so why not? Brian

Re: Safari windows on AD truck?
Pre 46 trucks and burbs have a single roll out shield that is very similar im shape to the a.d. but slightly narrower. Hinged in the roof pocket and roller under dash with wind crank protruding through top of dash. If i was doing it, i would modify a pre 46 frame to fit, get the rubber, cut the flat glass and weld in the hinges and the winder.

Re: Safari windows on AD truck?
Newfisher nailed it. Take a look at the setup on a 41/46 truck and se how it works.
