I suck at painting....

Well, if at 1st you don't succeed, try and try again.....then wait till you have enough cash and go hire a painter.

My feeble attempt at paint.

I do like the John Deere Blitz Black.

Re: I suck at painting....

Don't shoot yourself in the foot here. It's a FIRST attempt. Find a really good painter and ask him about his first attempt. I think you'll be surprised at the stories he'll tell you. We all started some where.

Re: I suck at painting....

It's my understanding that Satin is one of the most difficult to do.
For a first attempt it's not bad.
I think you could now just do one part at a time. Get one fender as you want and move to the next.

I'll agree that I don't think it looks too bad; just practice a little more and you'll get the hang of it.

Re: I suck at painting....

The nice part of synthetic enamel, is if you don't one particular part, just wait a few days, sand it down and reshoot it again. Personally I think it looks great for a first attempt. And yes shooting flat or satin part is harder than gloss.

Re: I suck at painting....

With satin/matte paint jobs, you have to lay it on VERY wet. you want the complete area to be wet at one time. This way it dries at the same time,. Otherwise you will end up with splotches and streaks.

i will soon be doing mine in hot rodz satin black, im doing panels off the truck. so hopefully i can achieve even drying and i heard the flash time is most important so it can flatten out then followed by more coats...

I had to paint this at 3 o'clock in the morning and it was still nearly 90 degrees.

Then the gun started giving me fits and squirting instead of spraying.

It does have splotches and streaks and as Mark said...I get to sand it down and fix it :-)

Thanks guys for the kind words.

Re: I suck at painting....

When you go to do it again, do each panel separately.

X2, Smaller area to focus on and lots of repetitions to improve your skill.
Hard to see what the flaws in the picture, I like it, Looks ready to Kaarooz
Can you wet sand and buff like the gloss enamel?

You can't wet sand this paint and keep the satin look.

Thankfully most of the truck looks "good enough" for the look I wanted.

I'll get a couple high school kids over here and put them to work.

best part about the paint you used is that if you wet sand the bad parts with 800 grit then re spray those spot you will never know you did i have touched mine up a few times even did some weathered lace stripes

Re: I suck at painting....

Gotta say...that's a darn good paint job for first time! Painting is harder then it looks! lol I've painted some....enough to at least be able to paint my own truck...won't be super show perfect...but long as its shiny, smooth, an last a long while...no complaints.
