Truck is running HORRIBLE!!!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deBKSGFgPuc

It won't stay running, every time I put my foot on the gas. I literally have to keep pepping the pedal and it dies
It has NEW

New Spark Plugs
New Spark Plugs wires
New Ignition Coil
New Fuel Pump
New Fuel line
New fuel filter(I think)
Carburetor has been rebuilt

Could Points be bad?
I'm tired of messing with it, it keeps doing weird crap

Re: Truck is running HORRIBLE!!!!

Did it EVER run right after you (or someone) rebuilt the carb?

PS: I hate to be the bearer of more truth than you want to face, but "it" isn't "doing" anything. It runs the way it's left to run based on who is diagnosing it and working on it. If you actually inure out what is wrong and address it correctly, it'll run like a Swiss watch.

Re: Truck is running HORRIBLE!!!!

So what has changed between your "test drive" video, and now? Just the things listed?
I would verify proper fuel pressure at the carb, make sure after the carb rebuild something didn't get lodged inside to cause a blockage, Make sure float, idle needle, and butterfly are set correctly.

I'm guessing you have firing order and timing set correctly after the new plugs, wires, coil etc...

Re: Truck is running HORRIBLE!!!!

Timing isn't set to the right but its right near where it was
Firing order is in place

How do I check without the Gasket tearing?

It ran for a while after we fixed the fuel issue

I'd get the timing set right. Mine ran kinda like yours before I got my timing dialed in.

Re: Truck is running HORRIBLE!!!!

how much fuel are you keeping in your gas can?
I was asked but not answered did everything in your list change after the "test drive"? It is asked to help narrow it down. That is alot of changing but it must be one of those items it they all changed.

Re: Truck is running HORRIBLE!!!!

1. Change the fuel filter (s) I used to carry two spares in my 71 because the tank had crud inside that I couldn't seem to get flushed out.

2. If you haven't got a filter in the line between the tank and the fuel pump put one in. That will keep dirt out of your fuel pump.

3. When the carb was rebuilt, were the settings very carefully checked and set correctly for that engine? I've seen some so called rebuilt carbs where the guy who did it just took the thing apart and replaced the pieces and put it back together without setting float level or other adjustmemts.

4. If you didn't correct the source of the dirt that got in the carb the first time you probably just got more dirt right back in it.

These are all things I have run up against time and again over the years, some on my trucks or cars and some on other's rigs that got drug to me to be repaired after someone else "worked" on it. When I was Teaching High school autoshop it was pretty common to have local people drag in cars or trucks with problems that no one could get fixed right for us to work on. That was quite often when they had tried to do something with the carb or ignition and couldn't get it to work.

Re: Truck is running HORRIBLE!!!!

Do yourself a favor and use the correct fuel tank you have. Install it and throw that POS red plastic can in the dumpster. That would be a good start to fixing your issues.

Re: Truck is running HORRIBLE!!!!

Work on one change at a time, doing too many at once exponentially increases the number of issues. I would do them in this order:

1. Clean and install real gas tank. Might be fuel pressure issues with the location or size of the plastic unit. Install the fuel filters per previous comments.
2. You know it runs, get it to idle, in the video is sounds like it will not idle. Could be as simple as turning the idle speed screw on the linkage. I also assume you have the choke hooked up, that will affect the idle and throttle response when cold.
3. Once it idles if it still dies or stumbles when you push on the gas it usually is a)choke setting if cold; b)accelerator pump or c) vacuum advance. Check the choke to make sure it is closing all the way when cold. Look down the carb to make sure you are getting a shot of fuel when you open the throttle. Use a timing light to make sure the advance is working. It might not be the vacuum advance, there is also a mechanical weight system that could be gummed up, timing light will tell you if it is advancing. Just make a mark on the bottom pulley and see if it moves when you give it throttle.

Re: Truck is running HORRIBLE!!!!

As well as the above:
Sounds like a 6 w/ monojet or similar with a bad vacuum leak, or not getting fuel. Might see if the vac advance hose is off or broken if there is one. Crank up the idle speed (not mixture) screw til it runs and spray come carb cleaner on the base of the carb to see if it improves, indicating a vacuum leak.

Re: Truck is running HORRIBLE!!!!

I keep a good amount in the tank

Saw this truck today

I have a new vacuum line being installed partially(in the works)
The people are possibly coming tomorrow to do a story on my truck

I'll change out the fuel filter and see what it does

Oh..really now? I'm busy currently. I help a man with parkinsons as much as possible, help my grandmother.. am unable to work due to health issues.. Think its funny now? I teach myself things, its trial and error constantly..

anyway, all I have to do is flare the end to it and install it
Having some issues routing it with the oil canister location.. I'll take more time to work on it as I am busy

Re: Truck is running HORRIBLE!!!!

Was the vacuum line uninstalled and open when you were having the problem? If so that is the problem, no advance and a vacuum leak (if the port on the carb is not plugged). If not you have eliminated another variable assuming the distributor advance is working.

Thats very cool of you, but have nothing to do with your question or truck issues. You ask for help, ignore what folks ask of you, then get pissy. It is the same each time. Ignore the haters, we have had that talk before. There are some amazingly knowledgeable folks trying hard to help you. Please don't ass out on them.

Thanks and good luck

I think I mentioned this about 2 weeks ago but my suggestion was quickly shot down because it had just been rebuilt.
When it comes to fuel delivery it's either a bad line, fuel pump or it's the carb, every single time

I am not familiar with these engines as much as others. So your entire vaccum line is a "hard" line? Can you run a rubber hose to simplify things? I know hard lines can be a pain to fit correctly then get them to seal up right. I still bet this has alot to do with the running issue. I bet when it is all hooked up it will make a world of difference.
