Pickup on Counting Cars
Did anybody catch last night episode of Counting Cars? His style is always on the same page as mine. But I think the guy is a genuine nice 'car guy'.
I think it was an 86 C10. Turned out nice. Sorry, I couldn't find a picture of it online. |

Re: Pickup on Counting Cars
I saw the show and it was nice to see them do a squarebody. I think they do high quality builds and I really liked the 86, but the hood scoop looked dumb.

Maybe if you emailed Danny, he might reply with pix.
Tell him it's for a squarebody group of fanatics.

Re: Pickup on Counting Cars
i've been to his shop, it is pretty cool. i didn't get to see any of the people that are actually on the show but a tour of all his stuff was awesome if you're ever in Vegas i suggest checking it out. The price guide on the wall is phenonominal what they charge...

Re: Pickup on Counting Cars
I liked it, paint was cool and the black interior was *****in. The chintzy tube grille and driving lights in the bumper weren't doing it any favors. Nor was the grubby a/c box and master cyl. I suspect this one was a turn n burn job not some of their better work. Still cool though. And I like the wheels.

Re: Pickup on Counting Cars
I kinda agree with you Kalbert. That grill/bumper gotta go.
I really like the paint combo but that combo screams 90's Ford F150. I think Ford painted like every third truck in the 90's that color I think the kount could do better, but he is getting a lot of airplay out of it. And yeah I would not kick it out of my driveway cause it's dressed like it came from Henry's stables. |

Re: Pickup on Counting Cars
I like the work they do BUT there's always something I don't like about some of the finished products. There's always some detail that I don't like, just preference and tastes I guess. I wasn't too impressed with the 86 pickup to be honest. It left a lot to be desired for me. The front was not appealing. Just my opinion though.

Re: Pickup on Counting Cars
I had all of the "brother" this and "brother" that I could stand, can't hardly watch the show any more.
The straw that broke the camel's back for me was when they dropped a crate 350 in a Yenko clone. Claimed it was going to be a "tribute" car rather than a clone. Still, needed a 427 between the frame rails. They also worked on Marley's Mercedes. When they were under the car, they were all discussing and pointing to the bad gas tank. What they were pointing at was the spare tire recess in the trunk. The other problem I have with the show is they show very small parts of each build. This encouraged folks to get into the hobby and their first project just started good when they find out that the devil is in the details. OverHaulin' still rules, there's none more talented than Chip Foose. As for Gas Monkey, Richard is a Dick, would be a good car show if that pretty boy wasn't in it. |

Re: Pickup on Counting Cars
Personally the best car show if you want to see the work being done is Wheeler Dealers. He expalins what he's doing and the majority of the show is actually working on the cars.
Richard ( DICK ) from Gas Monkey Garage needs a serious beating and I'd be first in line to give it to him. WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO ! _\m/ RIZ |

Re: Pickup on Counting Cars
I watched that episode and they said he paid 11 grand for the project truck. I kind of doubt that because the finished truck at best would only bring a few grand more. All I saw was a new crate engine, stock (aftermarket) interior, new wheels and a nice paint job.
The early years of Wheeler Dealers were the best. Back then they showed you how to do things on a real life budget. Since their budget is larger they tend to go more upscale but I still like the show because they are not pushing manufacture's top of the line parts. Most of the American car shows seem like info commercials than how to do it car shows. Second favorite is Fantomworks. This one shows some of the build but more of the pitfalls and expense of restoring old cars. http://www.fantomworks.com/ |

Re: Pickup on Counting Cars
Counting Cars is all staged and fake, like all the car "reality shows". I do watch them for entertainment value, but don't take anything serious that they say and do.

Re: Pickup on Counting Cars
Like all the reality type shows, they normally start out good, then they just have to bring on the drama. Gas Monkey used to be pretty good when Aaron was actually doing work and most of the show was dedicated to a build. Richard and all the drama killed it for me.
I think Danny is a good dude and they do some awesome stuff, Horny Mike and the detailer dude have just about ruined it for me. I agree with the other poster on the Silverado, not his best work for sure. More air time dedicated to builds and techniques and ALOT less drama is what car guys want to see. |

Re: Pickup on Counting Cars
I will not watch Fantomworks. The owner is an arrogant jerk. Plus he seems like he steers them into a much larger bill than the owner wants to spend. He comes across as a real pompous ass.

I agree on not watching fantomworks, he just seems to only complain about everything.

Re: Pickup on Counting Cars
I'm not a big fan of any of the 'not-so' reality shows... bad acting.
some of the cars are cool. that said, I dont hate the 86. I DO dig the wheels- anyone got an idea on what they are. some kind of smoothy with spider caps, but they look bigger than 15's? Any body know what they are? |

Re: Pickup on Counting Cars
I like em all and watch em all. Even west coast customs. They all have there pitfalls but it beats watching real housewives of Hoboken or dancing with people who wish they were still stars. I think chip is the man, Richards a dill rod but Aaron has chops, west coast does crazy stuff but the owner is an owner not a builder, wheeler dealer used to be good but the accents get old, phantomworx guy is a DICK but an ex green beret dick so don't tell him I said so, Danny is probably a great guy to snag a beer with just don't want him working on my stuff, especially for the prices he claims. El Rey is probably the most true to who he is and what he does but that's not much. Vegas rat rods does some stuff I enjoy seeing but the stripper in the shop helps with that....a lot! Only one I really want touching my truck is Chip and even then he's not a solid choice for a 4x4. Just my .35 cents.

Re: Pickup on Counting Cars
X2, watch what I can. Granted Richard's shtick is getting a bit old, Danny seems too spendy for what you get, El Rey is just cheap, but I like that I guess, and the fat and furious guys seem a bit over the top too. Seems all these guys pay way too much for the projects they work on. If it's rare or in awesome condition fine but 3 grand for a rusted out shell in the tree row is ridiculous. If they want to pay that much they can come up here and I would love to have some of that money. On the other hand I like Vegas Rat Rods. Diesel anything turns my crank so it has that. Steve has his own style and actually works on things in the shop so that's another plus. The only thing I don't like is all the black smoke they think they have to blow all the time.
