Is this normal and is it from the engine or trans?
Hey all,
I have had this question in my head for a long time but just been ignoring it. I have a 2011 5.3 w/6L80. You know those times where you slam on the gas and the tranny kicks down but for whatever reason (someone cut you off) you have to let back off real quick? Well when I do that my tranny seems to not know what to do for a few seconds but there is still all this buildup in the engine (high rev)and then it sounds like my truck farts and all that pent up energy is released, is this normal? |

Re: Is this normal and is it from the engine or trans?
Not a single code or anything happens during this? I can honestly tell you I've never heard of a problem like that...
IF there was a way for power to "build up", then it would all be lost in heat and slip at the convertor if it didn't know where to go. Unless that noise is you massively slipping past the convertor... The valves go through their events each power cycle, so its not like you can actually "trap" air or fluid anywhere to build up. When you stab the gas and lift off right away, there is something called DFCO with is basically decel fuel cutoff or enrichment. Depending on your fueling and how that is setup, you could be in a fueling situation that triggers the odd behavior. Without a log or the tune live it may be hard to tell.

Re: Is this normal and is it from the engine or trans?
Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated. No codes at all, it's weird... only happens when I stomp on it, tranny kicks down but I let off the gas before the power kicks in. it almost sounds like an air brake like the big rigs have. Other than that she drives good.
