A long drive to Tuscon and a few new toys...

I bought a 71 GMC from Metalspatter on here around May, and finally got a chance to drive down to Tuscon and pick it up. Its perfect for what I was looking for, a truck to wheel with and not worry about scratching. Runs great and I want to thank him again for letting it sit at his place for 3 months. On the way down, stopped in Rock Springs, WY and dropped off a 67 SWB frame for my boss. So here are some road trip pictures, and a few of my new K5 as well.

On the way down

Pics of my new truck loaded and ready for the 1800 mile trip back

My other hobby is collecting vintage toys, so had to stop at the Toy Shack in Vegas.

And my blazer

Nice GMC...expensive tires too! Those are used on the used Marine Corps humvees. They are good tires

Re: A long drive to Tuscon and a few new toys...

I really like that GMC. Even the chrome spokes stand out. and give it the "been a nice truck for a long time" look. Well worth the ride, and I've done the Flagstaff to Sturgis run before. Long ride.

Man,I backed off on my toy collecting craziness but I haven't lost a bit of interest. I'd love to go to his shop. I was the collect-o-maniac in the 80s-90s,cuz I'd steal it if you wouldn't sell it (lol). I went all over hunting vintage toys. Mostly vehicles and mostly trucks, but I'm also into anything western,Davy Crockett, etc, and all sorts of All American type stuff. (& souvenir stuff)......tools........................riding toys........................fishing...............
.............&

Flat tire? meh... All in all sounds like one of those great experiences that you'll be looking back on with a smile from here on out

Cool trucks. I am partial to GMC's as well. Redid a 71 swb step a few years back. I gotta know, though...did you score that sweet Strawberry Shortcake lunch box? My 3 yo daughter is a big fan. What thing it now, as a matter of fact.

Re: A long drive to Tuscon and a few new toys...

me too,but more like Grizzly Adams . That is a nice batch of toys you bought there. When I was actively collecting it was like being a junky. The high was the "score",although just seeing stuff was a good buzz. My daughter collected penguins,my wife collected Skookum Indian dolls and all sorts of things. If I'd see anything they collected I was buying it. I got as much from that as if it was for me. Same thing with my two sons. My youngest had 10' x 12' x 2' deep sandbox and a full array of '50s pressed steel sand box construction toys (he'd get the lesser condition or restoration candidates). Oh,I forgot to mention in my last post,Smokey The Bear..........Cartoon character............cast iron..........vintage girly & bar stuff (well, not kids toys).........

But that sure is a nice truck. When I restore my K2500 I've been thinking a color in the gold to brown spectrum

Re: A long drive to Tuscon and a few new toys...

I absolutely understand what you mean by finding your next "fix" when it comes to collecting toys. When you find something great, it lasts for a few days until you get bored and are looking for the next one. I really actively collect redline hot wheels and Johnny West action figures. There's nothing like that high of finding a rare piece lol. This GMC is the dark olive color. I call it turd brown with gold metal flake lol
