Transmission cooler lines

All,
I am on the homestretch of a 5.3/4l60e swap into 1987 squarebody. I bought universal 5/16 hardline to bend and run for the tranny cooler lines. The problem is, when i tighten the fitting into the transmission, they bottom out on the transmission housing before getting tight...is there something im missing?

The factory lines for the 4l60e were held in using a clip correct?Do i have to use that style connection??

Thanks in advance!

Re: Transmission cooler lines

the case threads are 1/4" npsm not npt.

i googled "4l60e trans fittings and came up with a ton of options"

I personally used AN fittings & line since I had a ton extra from the fuel lines.

Re: Transmission cooler lines

Hmmm, the fitting on the end of 5/16 line is 1/4 npt?? It screwed right in, just not enough threads to tighten up...

Re: Transmission cooler lines

i just went through this yesterday. Order Dorman 800-755 from any parts store. just goes in between the line and the trans. no more fluid pooring out.

Re: Transmission cooler lines

If you still have the trans that with in the truck before, you can swap the adapters over and save a trip to the parts store.
