On the shiny plate inside the driver door, 12 digit number below weights, what is it?

1970 k20. 292, has these numbers under the axle weight numbers as some sort of vehicle ID number,
x3240z134334

I cant find anything in my searches so far, can anyone point m in the right direction?

I though this was the vin but it doesn't fit what a vin "should" be from all my reading

all the vin decoders I've found, and posts on this forum don't help me decode at all.

Someone with more knowledge will have to chime in on the "x" and the "3" but the rest I can do from memory:

2= 3/4 ton
4 = pickup body style
0 = 1970 model year
z = Fremont assembly plant
134334 = sequential build number

Yoder, take a look at the first two Digits again. See if the X is really a K (for 4WD) and the 3 should be a S (for 6cyl). The rest decodes like Keith posted.

Re: On the shiny plate inside the driver door, 12 digit number below weights, what is

OK, Well you got a bit of a mystery there. There is no decode for a X in the Chassis Type slot, or for a 3 in the Engine Type slot. So I don't know what to tell you about that. Do you have a SPID(glovebox option sheet)? Is the VIN the same on it? How about a Frame VIN? Protect o plate? Buildsheet? Do the Rosehead rivets on the VIN plate look original? If you can get a pic, I'd like to see the stamping font, to see if it matches known VIN plates from 1970 Fremont.

Keith, Is there any way that it could have left the factory with that discrepancy on it?

Here is a 1970 vin plate, from Fremont, that was 512 units after yours. How does yours look next to this one?

But does your truck have the sticker on the inside of the glovebox door? Does the VIN match the VIN on that sticker? What is the VIN on your title and/or registration?

Thanks Yoder, What about the other places the VIN appears. SPID is the best place to check it. Does your truck still have a SPID?

Yeah, it does look like a K, but the 3 after it is a different 3 than the other two 3s later in the VIN.

Re: On the shiny plate inside the driver door, 12 digit number below weights, what is

Good catch on the first 3 being a different font. That's weird. I assume these were set up in a die of some sort, hopefully not by hand, but you never know.

You rarely see it mentioned, but the C and E are not the only choices, right? You could get P for forward control, G for van, and so on. But that wouldn't explain the in the engine code slot.

I think we need to know what the SPID is before we go too far off the ledge.
