58 whats it worth?...

I have a chance to buy this truck from one of my clients who needs some quick cash...he is not really a hardcore car guy but has owned this for a long time..He spent about 10 years having it restored (Frame off)...says in total he has about $45k in it...it was finished in 2009...only has about 600 miles since the restoration...in his words it "runs like a raped ape".

I have seen it before but have not driven it...It was very nicely done restoration...I am more of a 67-72 guy, so I really do not know what its worth, or what I should offer him?...any insight would be appreciated..

Thanks in advance
Dan

Re: 58 whats it worth?...

it looks like a very nice truck, but imo not worth near what he has in it
$20k would be a nice starting point depending on what you want out of the truck
if your looking to flip it then no

Re: 58 whats it worth?...

Am I the only one here who thinks that that paint job detracts from the value of the truck? When you put a unique paint job like that on a vehicle you limit your options for selling it IMO. It looks like a well done truck but I suspect that most people who would purchase it are factoring in the cost of a new paint job when making an offer.

Re: 58 whats it worth?...

You just have to find that buyer who likes the paint and paint is pretty cheap if the body work was done correctly. Interior looks nice but the door panels seem stark compared to the rest of it. What's done appears to be done well but pictures can be deceiving and there are no pictures or description of the drive train, suspension or brakes other than seeing what appears to be later style vortec heads on the engine. $45K seems cheap if someone else did all the work. IMO, $20K or so would be a steal for a person who didn't want to build one IF it is as solid as it appears and has comparable drive train, brakes and suspension. You can put or save a lot of money in those areas.

Re: 58 whats it worth?...

If the drive train and underside are on the level with what we can see, 20k would be a good price. I wouldn't sell it for that if it were mine.

Re: 58 whats it worth?...

Deff needs a new paint job and then it'll be worth $20-30g to the right buyer. There are a few older very clean resto rods around here that aren't selling due to their out dated paint jobs. If they were a nice solid colour they'd be worth twice as much for some of them and be sold already. If it's a flip you need to be around $15gs on it to make it worth while incase you have to repaint it. It's also a '58 and they aren't as popular as '55-57 right now.

I also believe the paint detracts from the value.

Re: 58 whats it worth?...

That one is going to be a MAJOR job to repaint because it carries into the interior and under the hood...Inside the bed...
You would have to dissemble the whole thing to do it right... If it were my truck I think I would have to go with the center orange color all over.

Re: 58 whats it worth?...

i'm probably one of the few here that likes the paint job, it is well done
but repainting it in a worthy shop would still run you $6k
as for popularity? i've owned six 58 or 59 trucks for the past 42 years
while can appreciate the tri5 trucks i would never own one as they are seriously overpriced
i drive what i like, not what model is popular

Beautiful truck. The bed, under the hood, and the interior all very nicely done. The different colors are not what I would have done, but I like the look. The guy has put 45G into the truck. You can see the quality. He would probably let the truck rot in his back yard before giving it away for 20G! I know I would.

Re: 58 whats it worth?...

You forgot that part about "quick cash". No bank is going to finance even
$20K on a custom. If a guy has cash, doesn't need a bank and is willing, he can get a pretty good deal. Money talks. Start at $20K and go to $25K tops and that's only if the underside is close to the top side. Toys don't sell well on short notice.

Re: 58 whats it worth?...

Thanks for all the input!!

I offered him $18.5K....he told me to go F myself..lol.....but said $25k would buy it
I was originally thinking of flipping it if I could have gotten a good deal...But, I also think it would be a pretty cool truck to own and enjoy...My issue is the paint as well..and I told him that it hurts the value of the truck...he understood but stood firm on $25k

Nice paint job if it were still the mid 90's, at least to me. Can't say I like the wheel choice much either so even though it may have been well done I think he'll never get remotely what he put into it. But if he had others do all the work it wouldn't matter how great it looked, he'd never get money equal to what he spent.

That's why I just love it when people ask me to put a price on their stuff. You just can't win.

Agree! At worst you could meet him in the middle at $22K and it would be a reasonable buy. Something about "green" in the hand that makes a difference.

Re: 58 whats it worth?...

looking at the first picture, it looks like a single headlight, that would make it a 57, one ugly paint job. I would definitely drive it before buying, and would look and see what it looks like underneath, a lot of sins can be hidden. For someone looking for quick cash, I would say $20,000 if it checks out. Must suck to have a client with money problems. I also have a problem with only 600 miles in 5 years, for a vehicle that seems to be made to drive, with the modern navigation and air and all. Of course I think all vehicles should be driven, lol.

Re: 58 whats it worth?...

Definitely a dual headlight truck the front half of the fender forward of the wheel arch gives it away. On the 55-57 fenders the narrow body line that follows the arch stays narrow all the way around the arch and only gets wide at the extreme front bottom edge to be covered by the bumper. On the 58+ fenders the body line fills the front lower corner of the fender as above. Also note the section of chrome grill that can be seen below the headlights. That's a dual headlight grill.
Id say if you don't mind driving around in a rolling Popsicle, and it's mechanically sound with no covered rust, it's probably worth 20000. It's a shame it's painted the way it is because it has the potential to be a very nice truck.

Re: 58 whats it worth?...

Money is not a big concern with this guy...here is very successful...his idea of Quick Cash could be needed for a weekend in Vegas and he don't want the wife to know how much cash he is taking....hahaha....But he asked me to help him sell it before...I think he is just done with it and wants it gone...

The truck started out virtually rust free...only two very small patches...it was restored right...a retired friend of his who use to own a hotrod shop did most of the work..so he got it done quite cheap...considering!

Here is a couple more pics....Damn, I just wish it was a solid color..any solid color!!!

Re: 58 whats it worth?...

I looks like a lemon and orange creamsicle.

I don't like it but I don't hate it. Not worth buying if you can't live with it.

You couldn't build that truck for $25K though. It looks built very well.

If you are keeping it, love the concept or budget for what you would change. If buying to flip, keep the comments above in mind and hope/wait for the buyer that loves it as it is to show up or expect to be beat down on price.

Re: 58 whats it worth?...

Before reading the replies the price of 20K tops popped in my head. I'm not going to bash the paint but I don't personally care for it. It's not bad but not my taste either. It looks like a chameleon paint job gone wrong (my opinion). If the guy told me verbatim what he said to you, I'd walk.
