What is this called and where can I order one..

So...HO52 rear end, '72 C20, replacing the bearings and brake shoes..missed this when i ordered new bearings and parts..

Is this a "Thrust washer"?? or something else..and where can i order one. As you can see the one on the top was damaged when the bearing ate itself.. the tab that holds this in place is gone..

Also, what oder do these go in? ...is this right? Washer on the left goes on the hub first then the nut, then the retaining ring, then the nut?

Start here. I'm only familiar with the Dana 60 but that is the correct order to assemble. Good luck .

That is the thrust washer. It goes together in the order you have them. A tang on the "spider" goes in a slot on the outer nut to lock it.
I might have one or the GM part number. I can look Monday.

One more question.. what is the tool called that you use to tighten the two notched nuts? i was able to get them off with pliers and cussing.. but the install needs to be proper..

Special tool and tightened a certain amount, backed off to the nearest tab I'm guessing..

You can possibly rent the tool from a local auto parts store. I wouldn't monkey with trying to turn on it with screwdrivers and pliers, etc.

Glad I never had to do one of these, they look complicated compared to the Dana 60. I think it'd definitely be a good idea to have the workshop manual on hand, which likely has a diagram and steps.

Re: What is this called and where can I order one..

Read the manual! You can download a copy of it here on this forum.
You are supposed to tighten the first nut to a certain torque/preload then back it off like a half turn or something then re torque. Install your lock ring, then torque the outer nut. The manual gives you all the torque specs and how much you are supposed to back off and re torque. It can be done by feel but it's not something you want to experiment with on your first try.

Should be the same as a 14 bolt... dorman number 618-048, and the lock washer is a 618-049.

Absolutely! I downloaded the manual a while ago.. but the picture that is shows is a sideways view of the whole hub assembly..based on that alone i wasn't sure if i had that part names correct..

I will use it though for the torque/re-assembly.. you are absolutely correct.. i don't want to over/under tighten this and dork it up.. especially with how hard it has been to get correct parts!

The GM part # is 3663658. I don't have any though. I have some of the spiders.
Check with your Chev. dealer. It might be available or they are all connected together on computers & a dealer may still have one in stock. You might check with Westfall GMC here in the K.C. area. They have a huge stock of GM truck parts.
