Direction of cowl seal for 1955 3100?

Ok starting to put my 55 series 2 back together. I wasn't present when my son removed the cowl seal so didn't see which direction it was originally and he lost the pic he took.

Does the open side go towards the windshield or towards the engine compartment?

It looks like the open side goes towards the windshield then... hard to tell for sure as I can't enlarge the pic. Thanks for the response

Yes, the open slot goes towards the back. I went out and uncovered the truck and checked. My gasket is as hard as a rock!
