454 BBC spark plug recommendation.
I have a low compression (8.2:1) 454 bbc engine that I currently use ac delco R44T plugs in. They tend to foul out after a few thousand miles due slightly oil or running slightly rich. Truck doesn't smoke any from the exhaust. Engine is mild by bbc standards.
Wondering what others are running in their trucks with similar set ups? I have been advised to stay with the R44T, use a R44TS, use a R45TS, etc, etc. What are you using?

Is it the same few cylinders consistently, or is there no pattern to which cylinders foul?

The ts designation is an extended tip. protrudes the tip about1/8'' or 3/16s.. I would step up the heat range and see what happens... So r45ts.. Also, what year? HEI?

Got a HEI distributor. The fouling is about the same across all the cylinders. Looking to have a self cleaning plug installed. It appears the the R44T plugs maybe too cold for putting around town. Runs fine. Just scared the they may gove me issues soon

Yeah, if all you do is run it around below highway speeds it won't keep the combustion chamber as clean. I've run R44's (think they were just "T"'s) in my '85 1-ton (454) until this last time when all my FLAPS had was R45's, and they're performing fine so far. I don't think I've even put enough miles on them yet to take them out and check the gap.

For years all us local BB 454/396 lovers ran r44C commercial plugs they last 3-4 times as long and I would go 1 step hotter----good luck

Thanks guys. I bought some R44TS. Suppose to extend into the cylinder a little more to prevent early fouling. We will see how they do. I got flat top pistons so clearance shouldn't be an issue in the cylinder.
