Clutch going out 10 or 11 in

My 62 clutch is going out and I was wondering what size is it. Is it 10 or 11 in? I am still recovering from surgery and I can't pull it apart yet. I would like to get it and have it ready. It's got the original 235 with the three speed.

More than likely its a 10.5 or 11 and you wont know with out taking it out. My trucks all came with 10.5, but I reinstall 11 clutches.

Re: Clutch going out 10 or 11 in

Mine was 11 inch. When I swapped over to T5 fine 26 spline I went 10 because the only clutch out there at that time was a Viper, with its double the cost for that 1" .

Re: Clutch going out 10 or 11 in

Thanks for the help. When I have it in gear I totally lose the clutch, when I hold it for a while. Then I pump the pedal and I have it again. I have replaced the master and slave in the truck already but it has been a year ago. I looked at it with someone else holding the clutch pedal down and the slave and push rod didn't move. I'm still not sure if it is the slave or master cylinder.

if the rod dont move when pumping the pedal and its not puking fluid all over the ground then your master is toast

The rod is moving but I loose the clutch after I hold it down for a while. The slave cylinder is engaged but I loose the pedal and the truck starts to move. So I can't really diagnosis the problem. No leaks and clutch works fine if you don't hold it down for a while. I'm thinking it's the master cylinder also.

Yes, it sounds like the master cylinder is leaking internally and bleeding down.

one should be able to see the brake fluid to see where it is leaking from. a lot of times you can see it on the inside of the firewall

I think it's internal. I don't see any fluid on the fire wall or ground. It does work only if you use the clutch for a short period and if I hold it down i have to pump it back up to get a pedal. I just re-verfied it again and it is bleeding down somewhere. I'll go get me another master cylinder and try it out. Thats why I like this site. Thanks for all your help!

Re: Clutch going out 10 or 11 in

you may still have air in the system. try bleeding it some more. if fluid is leaking out it is going somewhere. if the master is leaking it usually shows up inside the cab where the pushrod goes into the master where the rubber boot is. just pull the rubber back to check for wetness.
if it is an internal leak then that is air and as above; bleed it.
also check your fittings for loose. it doesn't take much

It sounds like it's leaking past the first/pressure seal of the master cylinder, but not out the back and onto the firewall; just goes back into the reservoir. If it had air in it you'd never have a good pedal; his problem is it bleeding down while you hold it in.

it doesn't take much air. by the way what is displacing the fluid that is leaking internally?

But he said it works as long as he doesn't hold it down; the pressure bleeds off.

What do you mean by "what is displacing the fluid that is leaking internally?"? All the master cylinders I've dealt with have the front seal that builds pressure, and another behind it that keeps fluid from escaping and the cylinder from sucking air on the return stroke (I think/guess? Never really researched it). If the front leaks, the pressure just bleeds back into the reservoir--which is what sounds like is happening.

Re: Clutch going out 10 or 11 in

Today I replace the master cylinder and it corrected the problem. Thanks to everybody for saving me some time in the troubleshooting process. Works great!
