Is this truck worth $4500
I'm going to look at this truck tomorrow.
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/eat/cto/4525204492.html Do you think it's worth $4500? If no, why not? |

Re: Is this truck worth $4500
Ha! Coming to my town, eh?
That truck has been for sale for months; if it was a good deal, it would be long gone by now (IMO/IME). Looks like a reasonably solid SWB/BBW truck, but it looks like everything that's been done to it is pretty awful (wiring hanging everywhere, rebel flag crap, etc.). It's worth whatever someone wants to pay, but I don't see $4,500 there. |

Re: Is this truck worth $4500
Thanks for your reply. It has been listed for awhile but this guy was really hard to get in contact with. Rewiring at least the engine compartment is the first thing I would need to address for sure. Honestly, my biggest hesitation is that it doesn't have PB/PS.
I'll let you know what I see tomorrow. |

Re: Is this truck worth $4500
PS/PB are very common/easy mods if you want that; I wouldn't really worry much at all about it.

Re: Is this truck worth $4500
I always feel weird with these posts. Like someone said, it's worth whatever the market will bear, but talking smack about it is like talking smack about your buddy's girl. What if you marry her...it would always be awkward to talk about her then. You'd know I wasn't there for you in the beginning. I say if you want it and are willing to pay the price, get it and have fun! I've paid too much for a lot of things, but if they were the things I wanted it was always worth it.

Re: Is this truck worth $4500
Big window short beds are worth more then others. I'd say it's a good starting/asking price, puts the negotiations in the ball park. Probably $3700-$4000 if it runs decent. What do you see for under $4K? Mostly junk.

Re: Is this truck worth $4500
Couple of things to look at while you are there. The rockers and the floor repairs. The welding on the rockers looks poor and you nee to make sure the repairs are good. If need to be redone it a bargaining point for you and it one more thing on the list of stuff to do. I would also plan on a complete rewire of the entire truck. I'm at 3500 for that truck where I live in that condition.

Re: Is this truck worth $4500
I would look at body mounts, door bottoms, and inner fenders. I would take a magnet so you can tell what parts are still steel and whats are corvette...
People think if they ad new spark plugs the motor is rebuilt. I just drove $600 miles to look at a truck that was total junk. Im pretty sure the guy was smoking one of these.... |

Re: Is this truck worth $4500
I see many trucks in that range in far worse shape, however I will also agree with what the other guys are saying. Look at the metal repairs, is this going to need to be redone? Also look at motor and trans shape, if these need to be replaced the price should go down. Good Luck!

Re: Is this truck worth $4500
Depends on what your willing to pay! If its worth 4500 to ya..then buy it...but for what its worth, 4500 is a little high...I'd say about 2500 at top.

Re: Is this truck worth $4500
Thank you all for your honest answers to my question. I decided not to buy the truck. The quality of the workmanship or the lack of the quality of the workmanship has stopped me. I really wanted that truck. Damn!

Re: Is this truck worth $4500
Hate to see you not get what you want, but, I think you made a wise decision.
I would bet all of the panel work would need to be done over. Plus the wiring work. Not over $2500 to me anyhow. Steven

$4500 no way if the same guy that did the wiring did the panel replacement.

Re: Is this truck worth $4500
Not sure why the price of these trucks has jumped so high in the last two years. Now it seems everyone thinks thier longbed rusted out no motor 64 is worth it's wieght in gold. I paid 3k for mine two years ago and felt I paid too much but wanted it. It's rust free and ran good.

Re: Is this truck worth $4500
I think people see a truck on one of these auction shows. They see it sell for 20K and they think some POS out in the woods must be worth 5K....NUTS!!!
I have a general rule when I buy anything. If im not 1000% sure I could sell it for what I paid I will not buy it. Has worked for me for 30 years. |

Re: Is this truck worth $4500
I remember waaay back when my dad was giving me tips on knowing when to walk away from a potential pile: if when you open the hood, you see ANY lamp cord, push the hood back down and politely thank the owner for their time.
Though the pics are too small to see the wiring on this one, my guess is there might be some lamp cord in there. |

My dodge has a lamp cord for the ground from the battery to the frame. It's a POS too. So that explains it.

Re: Is this truck worth $4500
I don't know about you guys but when im looking at something online its very hard to tell what your looking at for sure. I ask for pictures and good pictures. I was looking for a truck that was 500-6 miles away so I wanted a good description. When I sell something I try to describe it the best I can and im sure I make things sound worse then they really are.
The truck I looked at that was pure junk was supposed to be a very rust free truck with one patch panel that needed welding in the floor. It looked decent in the pictures, but now that I look back at the pictures he was sure not show off anything to much. Like I wouldn't notice when I looked at it in person. |
