Looking at my first 67-72 purchase - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I normally hang around the 60-66 forums but i have come across a 68 C10 shortbed. ill post a link to the ad, but what should I look for as far as problem areas, such as rust and mechanical issues. Says the passenger side fender needs replaced and that the rockers have been redone. it does run and drive, lights work, and all that. Said he will do $1850, but i was thinking somewhere between 1-1500 on it. Does have a clean title. But not sure of the market on these trucks. Id like to get it, do a tune up on it, and drive it to keep miles off my duramax. any opinions would be great. thanks

Look for rust on ....

the inside of the upper winshield frame.

The Rocker panel

The Floor pan

The Kick panel

This woud areas to look for as far as potential rust areas.

if it were in my area and i had found it, i would buy it in a heartbeat given it weasnt completely rotted to dust.

better grab that sucker

I'd buy it for that. Looks pretty good so far for that price. Just check for rust under the cab.

Haven't looked at it in person, and told him I don't like making an offer without looking at it with my own eyes. I'm thinking maybe 1500 cash max on it but just depends on how bad I wan it when I see it.

I saw that on Nex-tech the other day and thought it looked like a decent truck, it's missing a few pieces but they are easy to find. I'd think it should be worth 15-1800 if it runs and drives decent.

He said the clutch just went out on it when he was taking it to town and that if i wanted it the way it sits with the clutch out, I could get it for 1300. Is that a fair price? Are clutches hard to replace or expensive at all? thanks

Clutches are not expensive,, but,,, how is the rest of the driveline. My advice, for what it is worth, is to buy the best truck you can afford. Look at cab supports and trailing arms as well. Check the firewall for hidden/camoflaged rust. Good luck.

Clutch would be about 200 for everything including a flywheel resurfacing. Probably going to pick it up tomorrow

Went to take a look at it today. He was driving to meet me and blew out a tire. got to the truck and the rockers had been done correct, floor was near perfect along with the bed. But the fresh air vents were so rusted so bad the hole was twice the original size. Then he never informed me that the firewall was rusted out almost completely. The windshield had a bunch of bondo around it as well. So he said he couldnt go any lower and I walked away from it. Sucks, but there will be another. thanks for the information guys.

Dillon, I see you joined the cool kids! Congrats hit me up if you need help I've been through all this on my truck already. I think you're brother has a nice shiny frame in Mel's shed just go swipe that he'll never notice.
You gonna keep it stock? Or something like this?
