1968 new build with questions

Well got my first truck 68 GMC. I'm excited for this and already started getting parts, little one mainly interior and trim, gotta start somewhere.
I do however have a big question. This truck has a leaf spring rear suspension and I am thinking of converting over to trailing arm. First off has anyone done this and is it worth doing? Is there a benefit? I feel it is a better set up for modding. I want to lower the truck but no air bags and no bed cutting. I want something that handles.
Please weigh in.

Re: 1968 new build with questions

As you may know the leafs were standard on the GMC's and coils optional while on the Chevrolet the coils were standard and leaf springs were the option. I have not done too much study on the change to coil springs as all three of my builds have them now. I am not sure if the rear frame section is the same for the two. Jim

Leave it alone and work with what you have, less cost and less trouble, jmo
By the way, nice truck to start with....

nice gmc. I think I saw that on craigslist a couple months ago...or it was another gray with the front blacked out. I normally like the front end of the chevy's better but I really thought the blacked out front and wheels with the gray body was a nice look.

I would just add traction bars.
