73-87 tonneau on '71
I was under the impression that 73-87 tonneau's will work on 67-72's perfectly. Called Summit racing, and they said that the one I want in particular (I want a tri-fold, nothing else) will only work on '83 on up. Going on a '71 K20 LWB. Will it work? Looking for people who have actually done this...
Thanks!

I can't say for sure, but I had a 73-87 fiberglass cap on my 69 for a couple years. It worked but was about 1" too wide on each side. I'd probably pass. Perhaps you should call the manufacturer of the tonneau and request dimensions.

Re: 73-87 tonneau on '71
Heard back from TonnoPro, from the dimensions they gave me It'll be right lengthwise but will overhang about 1/4" on each side. I can live with that. I really don't know why it's so hard to get a good tonneau cover for these trucks, since it's about the most popular style GM ever built

Re: 73-87 tonneau on '71
the 1960-72 are wider beds from up on top Best thing to do is go to the junk yards measure tape it but the beds on the 1973--2014 are narrower look and see where the stake pockets are see how much more bed extends into the bed on top. That's why why headache racks wont interchange the beds are different

Re: 73-87 tonneau on '71
I bought a nice cover from lmc. fits my truck nicely and removes easily if need. It is not a trifold but it is a soft cover with hinges and lift pistons. Just an idea for you.

Would you happen to have any pics of it? I was kind of thinking about that one too. Thanks!

Extang makes at least two for our trucks. The traditional BlackMax and a lift up type as described above called FullTilt. Probably what LMC sells and available elsewhere at a better price (try eBay or http://www.autoaccessoriesgarage.com/Tonneau-Covers). I can't comment on fit or operation since I haven't any of them. Also www.extang.com/

Gaylord's makes a custom fit cover for our trucks (fiberglass). They might make a tri fold, not sure. I would contact them.

Re: 73-87 tonneau on '71
I know you said one type only but these are nice covers...
http://www.pace-edwards.com/JackRabbit 73-87 works on shortbeds for sure...check for long bed application. I have one on my truck, awesome cover. *Actually they list them as 67-87 fit.... http://www.pace-edwards.com/images/a...bsite_Only.pdf

Re: 73-87 tonneau on '71
Seriously leaning towards the fulltilt one. Looks like it'd be the best one for the money. Thanks for the help y'all!
