Pair of big block short beds on eBay

Not mine. One is hugger orange, tons of options, but no mention of what's original.

Why does anyone post these trucks for sale without a SPID?

Because it means nothing to most people. Condition of the vehicle is what people are concerned about. Rust free sheet metal is what sells trucks, not stickers

Re: Pair of big block short beds on eBay

The spid pics are probably missing from these two auctions cause the trucks were probably "cloned"

Re: Pair of big block short beds on eBay

Here is another short step on EBay.. Why is it that dealers always seem to end up with these trucks and are trying to make 4/5000 above what the paid for them.

Re: Pair of big block short beds on eBay

Sorry, here's the other one.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/291222476173...:SS:SS:US:1120

I think they're priced right if they're real and original and have had a frame-off. I don't think that appears to be the case.

There is a HUGE price difference between long bed small block and short bed big block (and I don't have a short bed, so no horse in this race). Like the difference between Chevelle SS and a Chevelle 300 four-door. Well, maybe not that big. Maybe between a Chevelle SS 454 and a Chevelle 300 w/ small block.

Dave looks like your two trucks are from the same EBay seller. It says he is thinning his collection.

Funny that it is a "Custom 10", yet it has a cheyenne (CST?) headliner. I could almost the fact that it was just an oddly optioned truck if it weren't for that. I am about 99% sure you could order a tilt wheel, buckets/ console, v8, auto trans, AC and tack on an othewise "base" model truck, but the only trucks I have seen with a headliner were cheyenne. I believe the stainless pedal trim only came on the level trucks.

Re: Pair of big block short beds on eBay

My middle brother had a 72 Custom 10 with 19k miles. It was a pale yellow lwb, white bumpers and wheels, poverty caps but had a PS, PB,big block 400/TH400 and AC, not much else, even a radio delete. A custom cabinet shop ordered it to pull their install trailer (but it had coils in back) (?) He got the window sticker and they paid more for it than my uncle did for his 72 cheyenne 10 black/black lwb 400/400 with tilt, bedside toolbox, am/cm and tach. He bought it off the lot from AJ Foyt Chevy in Pasadena Tx. I have also seen a few cheyenne trucks with 6cyl/ 3ott powertrains as well.

Re: Pair of big block short beds on eBay

That SPID sticker is essential to determining true value of truck as a factory big block SWB. That is a class to itself in the world of truck collectors. But,even more important is the GVW on the VIN-Plate. The Fleetside is said to be a factory BBC. The Stepside he never quite says it's a factory big block

Re: Pair of big block short beds on eBay

Those are some really nice trucks Davepl. Thanks for sharing them. The orange and white one is a super looking and as nicely restored (from the pictures) as you will see on ebay. I think the prices on both are very "reasonable" considering what it costs to build one this nice, I'm sure they aren't making any profit, probably losing money.

As for the SPID questions, the picture answers that. To find the "holy grail" swb big block numbers matching etc. is pretty rare. I doubt they would be nearly as nice as either of these examples but rare none the less.

No truck is worth over 20,000
$20K for a truck is kind of cheap for a really nicely restored example

I think these trucks top out at at $45K and it has to be a very rare and desirable and original truck at Pebble Beach standards.

Below is a truck that if it were real and stock is probably a $40K truck. It's not through (engine chromed up, power steering hose dirty, wrong master cylinder, wrong rallys and so on). Still beautiful of course. If its a factory color even better, but I don't think it is (mine's DK BLU and isn't that dark). I'm assuming its a short bed.

Someone should ask for a picture of the exhaust hangers under the bed and cab (Hard, but not imposible, to duplicate the rivets). We could close this question of authenticity quick I would think.
Either way the trucks are nice...

Re: Pair of big block short beds on eBay

You can start from scratch and spend that much in all new parts alone, and an awfull lot of time involved also, or you can buy one of these all ready to drive away in. Probably not 'original' as from the factory, but who's is. they're very clean and it was hard to find fault on workmanship on them. I would like to see some underside shots also. Very nicely done on both of them. You just can't knock that....

I haven't been around that long.

I used to keep a graph of the value on my '67 Camaro over the years. Just kind of something for my own personal history.

Has anyone done similar for these trucks? Has the market changed much in ~2 years? If it did sell for $27K at one point then the asking price on eBay is definitely not outside of the realm, and the "make an offer" button means you may be able to get it closer to that $27K tag.

Interesting find Dave.

Ebay will gouge him for some fees but I bet it could be bought for near that $27k range.

Re: Pair of big block short beds on eBay

The blue one I posted above sold for $27,500 at BJ Scottsdale 2010. I'm becoming quite the detective :-)

And it looks like for really nice cloned trucks 27K is about right.
