brakes?

hi everyone my dad and i are starting to put our brakes back on our 1966 k20. we put the new wheel cylinders on and ran into our frst problem. if you can see in the picture the tabs are up on one backing plate and down on the other. we would like to know if we can press the tabs down to clear the wheel cylinders? thanks evan396Name:  IMG_0041.jpg

The one on the left is lower. It does look like somebody hit it down. The one on the right look's like it is to high. It is right up against the rubber boot on the wheel cylinder. I am concerned that the boot is going to rip when in use. Thanks evan396

my 1/2 ton ones rub on the rubber end caps. they must be there for a reason?

The tabs are against the rubber boots to help keep them on and to help support the wheel cylinder when the brakes are applied. Everything inside the drum wants to follow the drum around when the brakes are applied.

The tabs are there to keep the pistons from blowing out if it gets so far out of adjustment or some kind of catastrophic failure broken drum ECT.
