Your losing carrier bearings because your drive shaft is out of balance.

Have a drive shaft shop replace the carrier bearing ujoints and balance the shaft.

If you do a search you will find a few dozen results of people with the exact problem you have and the various solutions. Some people have had luck swappiing driveshafts from other vehicles. If your truck is set up exactly like theirs (same engine stands mounted in the same location same wheelbase and same rear end) you might be lucky enough to go to a junkyard and find a car equipped exactly like the one they found that's in useable condition. If that sounds like way too much effort and time to figure out, and it should, you could always have a one piece shaft made to specifically fit your truck. I've had 3 different length driveshafts in my truck and they've all fit.

On my 72 C10 LWB I went from a 2 piece shaft to a 1 piece shaft. I ended up with a drive-shaft vibration, had it balanced, still vibrated. Turns out the pinion angle needs to change when you change the position of where the drive-shaft originates (from the carrier bearing vs the trans tail housing). I'm running a very long shaft T400 but still not close enough to the rear cross-member.
It wouldn't shake too bad on flat highway, but when the bed was loaded or when the rear dipped due to an uneven road the vibration got worse. Selective angle shims (made for leaf springs) installed on the trailing arms corrected the angle and the vibration is gone. |
