new to me 64 3/4 ton

yet another fine day at the junkyard.i traded off my 78 wagoner i just was so tired of the thing sitting there. so i got a long step 64 3/4 ton (i know it has a 65 emblem but vin says 64)with a 292 and a 4 speed. like i needed another truck this is #10 including my parts trucks. now i need a 73-87 truck front suspension and a nv4500 for the old girl. i am just going do mechanical work and not worry about the cosmetics. let me know what you guys think ,if you have any pics or cool ideas to make it a better work truck feel free to share.

i say sand the black parts down to bare metal, let it rust and match the paint so it will look complete.

Re: new to me 64 3/4 ton

Neat. The 3/4 ton capacity is certainly nice when hauling stuff; I know I really like my C30. Are you going to leave it a stepside or put a fleetside bed on it?

I'd say a good trailer brake controller is really nice; I have an old proportional Kelsey-Hayes hydraulically-controlled one in my truck. Of course, a good trailer hitch and a selection of hitches/balls is a given to go along with that.

I love my Jr West Coast mirrors with the extra clamp-on convex spot mirrors, too; I can quickly glance and see all my tires (not the fronts, obviously) when in tight spots or on narrow roads.

The mud tires on the back are sub-optimal in the rain, but they are also great to have if/when you need them.

It's also kind of nice to flip the cab marker lights on and let all the numbskulls know that a loaded truck 102" wide is coming at them when it's dark.

mine is staying a step truck there was a fleet truck out there but i have ben wanting a long step since you got yours. trailer hitch is on my wish list and a brake controller. the jr west cost i snagged a set while i was out there just as rusty as the truck. marker lights maybe i have a hard time cutting holes in my trucks even if it is just my beater. on the other hand the roof does have rust above the windshield on the out side. mud tires may happen i did triad my jeep for this thing. thanks for sharing submarine

Ha, neat. Never figured I would be making people want to go out and buy their own beater HD stepside!

Yeah, even with the pitted and dented roof, I wasn't thrilled about putting a bunch of holes in it. Certainly does seem to make a lot of people get back in their own lane though, and I think they go along with the "look" pretty well.

The mud tires have certainly been a great thing to have in the mud and rough off-road situations, if you get into that a lot. I also think they just look kind of "right" on there for some reason...

Nice find I'm jealous of your spotless stepside box.

What's the story behind the seats? Never saw that before. Dig the fender side step box setup. Those Barden bumpers a life saver on a stepside.

Re: new to me 64 3/4 ton

well it made it home today the junk yard dropped it off. I then went to work gathering the pieces that where missing out of my pile of parts.
Its funny how some of the patina parts match what is on the truck like they never left. going to try and get it to run and put my other tires on this weekend so i can move it around. my biggest problem is i need a passenger motor-mount stool for a 292.

Re: new to me 64 3/4 ton

Should be able to find another without too much trouble; a guy in the parts section actually scrapped one (along with all the trans-mounted parking brake stuff I needed!!!) a couple weeks ago. Not that many around, but still not a giant demand.

Re: new to me 64 3/4 ton

well rather than working on my good truck i did some work to the new beater. that way i could move it around.i ran a hot wire to the coil threw my carb on it from my old 250 a rad and lower hose from the pile of parts. it runs kind noise going to leave it alone for now, will more than likely need a engine rebuild among other things.
