Spare Tire Lock
-
I know I saw a truck accessory flyer/catalog on here that had a picture of this spare tire lock in it but I'll be darned if I can find it now. I'm sure it is for the pickups but I don't know if it was an option for all '67-'72's or just certain years. Any help? Thanks, LockDoc

Re: Spare Tire Lock
Leon,
I am certainly no expert, but I think the round key was introduced in 73? Right. Regardless, that is a very nice piece. Bruce |

Hi Bruce, The GM oval head key was introduced in 1968. I actually have one of these locks with an octagon head key, one with a rectangular head key, and this one with the oval head key. The locks themselves all look the same so I just used this one for a picture instead of digging the other ones out.... I know I saw an accessory brochure on here somewhere with a picture of one. Where are all of the original literature junkies on here... Thanks, LockDoc

They have been available since the mid fifties. The tri-five Chevy's used them on the continental kits & they were an option for the Corvairs in the '60's. Most people sell them as a Corvette item because they think they can get more money for them that way. Unfortunately my lock books don't list them for the pickups so I am just wanting to verify whether or not they were an option for them.... Thanks for your input guys. LockDoc

Re: Spare Tire Lock
Boom! I knew I associated them with Corvairs, because my dad always called them that, but didn't know why.
We always used them on the side mount spares on our pickups ('69 GMC and beyond). I still have at least one laying in the back garage. K
