1972 automatic gear selector brightness

Hi everyone! I just brought my '72 and hooked up the fiber optic cable for the gear selector light. It's working but it's so dim that it is barely visible. Is this normal? If not what could be the problem? Thanks!

Is the bulb it plugs into good?

Yes it wasn't hooked up at all until today. I finally found the wire, put in a new bulb and reinstalled.

Wire? Doesn't your bulb twist into the rear of the cluster?

Yes it does that's what I meant sorry for the confusion. The wire wasn't hooked into the cluster it was tucked up under the dash.

Try cleaning both ends of the cable. It's also possible that it's cracked internally (replacements are available).

I will clean those in the morning to see if it helps any. I don't have to have it working but it would be nice
