1947 GMC ADC970 CL Find

http://stlouis.craigslist.org/cto/4635384859.html

Here is my latest craigslist find. I really don't know how the price ($5250) looks as this is the first one I've even seen for sale.

Here is the ad:

Beautiful truck. I think I would like to drive one like that someday.

That truck is beautiful though. If you can get it and you can restore it, then get it. Keep us posted.

Re: 1947 GMC ADC970 CL Find

Wow, that's a rare one. The 970's were considered a very heavy duty truck, notice the tandem axles are Timkin worm drives. It's actually an ADCW model, not a highway truck but made for construction and oil field use. I think these things grossed about 60,000 lbs. just for the truck.

I wish I had the extra money to buy this. It'll be a long time before I can afford to buy something like this. I was just sharing because I thought it was pretty cool.

Buying the truck would be the cheapest part.

Yeah, I can't even afford the projects I have now. I can only imagine finding parts for this old beast.

130" BBC, hood was aluminum, you can see the rivets in the reinforcements.

Seems like there were about 500 made over a period of about 3 years, I researched it several years ago .

Re: 1947 GMC ADC970 CL Find

Do these use the same cabs as the earlier pickups, or are they completely different? And, BTW, I'd love to see one of these fully restored, if anybody has a link or pics. Maybe one of these days I'll have the money to spare, granted they aren't all Chinese steel by then.

Single drive on air would be my choice.

Yeah, that is probably the general consensus. I guess that's why you don't really see the tandems restored as much. If you're going to put that much money into something, it may as well be exactly what you want. How much do you think it would cost to restore one like this to factory specs?

No, that cab was unique to 1937 to early 1949 heavy duty GMC's. Bigger than the pickup/light duty cabs.

I kind of like the added length of the twin screw. I like the color combo on the yellow one though.

Nice to see some restored.

They must have been one heck of a truck back in their day.
