64 daily driver project in NC
Hey guys kinda new to the forum, been lurking for awhile and doing research for friends projects on here but now it time for my own. So my old lame every day car finally starting having some issues that I didn't want to get into fixing so it was time to buy something new. I hate newer cars I like having aiming easy to work on. I decided it was time for a truck, my old 95' gmc is still kicking but with well over 350,000 miles it's only a matter of time for that truck. I came across a 64 step side on Craig's list after test driving it a deal was made and now it's mine.

Re: 64 daily driver project in NC
I knew when I bought the truck it need some work to be a good driver, one major problem was the rear end. It had a 4.11 posi in it, that clunked really bad. Sounded like a bowling ball was trapped in there. So I tracked down a 71-72 rear so I could keep my 5 lug and it's a direct bolt in. Then new rear end has 3.07 gears which makes a huge difference.
I have also replaced the carb, it had a holley 750 on it, which was too big so a buddy of mind told me to look at the carbs summit has been offering. After reading the reviews I bought a 600cfm model.... I would recommend this carb to anyone, it's been great. My problem right now is time.... I'm driving the truck everyday and it's doing pretty well, but I'm wanting to drive the truck to Pigeon forge car show I'm leaving on sept 4th. I still have to install my new aluminum radiator and cooling hoses, make a fan shroud, and do a final tune on it. |

I'm not doing well at keeping up with this build page! Been crazy busy tring to get this truck ready for the trip to tennesse. I'm very proud to say, it made it there and back without a single issue. Ran like a champ. Man I need to lower the front of that thing. |

Re: 64 daily driver project in NC
Its funny...in the above picture it looks as if you rear cab support are literally GONE or something is really outta wack....Unless my eyes are bad...which they are....I think yer suspensions fine, but yer cab an front clip are mounted wrong or something other.

Re: 64 daily driver project in NC
Well the story behind the hood hinge was after the truck was painted on the way back from the paint shop the hood popped up I think it bent the hinge. The latch does need some adjustment but can't do that till the hood sits properly. I have a lot of cosmetic stuff to do on the truck now that it's doing well mechanically.

Your fender is 2-3" off. Mounted too far forward.

Re: 64 daily driver project in NC
Sorry no real updates on the truck latly, been a lot going on with work but seem to be working out now..... Last weekend did manage to get my other project loaded up and back home. Also got my buddy's cab to the shop for media blasting, primer and finish up some metalwork. Hopefully I can save up some money for a 3-5 drop kit for the truck sometime soon.

Re: 64 daily driver project in NC
Well sorry for the lack of updates, had some crap go on at the shop I work at. Now I have a new boss and had to move the shop. That was pretty much 10 days of hell... Here's a few pics we had two blasting booths and a spray booth to take down and move.
Here's a day or two into the move And the other room |

Re: 64 daily driver project in NC
And here it is now
The side room This move of course was a bigger under taking then we thought, but it's finally done and over with. I did find some tail light I plan on using on the truck and get rid of this cheap ass trailer lights. Well the shop has moved just north of Hillsboro nc, we should be back up and running in a few months of any of you local guys need some work done just let me know we also do custom body/metal work and paint. Re: 64 daily driver project in NC
Yeah I hope so too! Luckly the new owner is someone Iv known for a long time and he does some awesome paint jobs. We met a few years ago in an airbrushing class I used to take. The down side for me is the commute is going to be 35-40 mins and I won't be able to drive the c10 everyday without my paycheck going to gas. But gives me time to fix a few things on it anyways.

Re: 64 daily driver project in NC
Got some time to fix one of the biggest eyesores on the truck, the tailgate. When I bought the truck the center of the tailgate was hacked out. The PO said the tailgate was all beat to hell so he cut it out and had a piece of plexie glass in there, not my style.
Here Iv cut the center panel the rest of the way out and drill the spot welds Here's the new panel being fit into place Here it is all welded up. My tig welder is out of order right now so I mig welded it. I put it back on the truck to see how it will look... It's a bit boring I wish I did something this the bead roller or something but it looks a lot better, still have alittle grinding to do and the prime it Ryan |
