Disc brake conversion on 4wd truck

I am looking at buying a 67 Chevy 4 wd truck and would like to convert the front to disk brakes. Is that harder with a 4 wd?

Thanks!

If you do a search you might find a thread about converting. I think most just install a later front axle.

Re: Disc brake conversion on 4wd truck

So I would swap the front axle with one out of a 71 or 72 truck?

Re: Disc brake conversion on 4wd truck

Up til about 70 they used closed knuckle and drum brake systems. Its often easier to swap to 71+ closed knuckle disk systems.
Blazers?, and subs didn't change body styles til 91 so there are a lot of doners.

Re: Disc brake conversion on 4wd truck

So I would probably want to swap out front and rears from a later model donor

Re: Disc brake conversion on 4wd truck

I believe 71-87 all front diff's will bolt in. At some point around 78 gm went to a corporate 10 bolt front but it will still bolt in. The rears will only bolt in up to 72, after that you would have to relocate spring perches & shock mounts. And again GM went to a 10 bolt from the 12 bolt I believe around 78. There are other subtle differences IE: larger brakes, slightly wider axels ext. But you can make them all work. Just make sure your front & rear gear ratios are the same !!!
I'm sure other members can give you even more details about yrs and there differences.
