Vacation Time, Working on My 84.

Took a week's vacation, took my K10 camping for a weekend, then started doing some work when I got back. Nothing insanely impressive yet, but I've got a lot of little things to fix and work on the make the truck a little more comfortable and look more presentable. The most noticeable thing is I got rid of that rusty, bent, black billet grille that was being held on by zip-ties. I painted and reinstalled the original factory grille. I also fixed a lot of burnt out bulbs in the gauge cluster. Now I can see everything on there, but still have to figure out how to make the speedo accurate. It's currently 15mph overcompensating because of the 35" tires that are on it. I ordered a new set of 33" mud terrain tires that should be in soon. Anyway, here are some photos, some before, some after. Enjoy, I love this damn hunk of metal......

Your K10 reminds me of my old C20. Black and grey, faded paint and black primer. I miss that truck, I owned it for 12 years and had lots of memories with it. Sold it when I moved...........

That's my friend's daily driver,it's a real nice truck. He also has an 88 Ford Ranger with a 2" lift and 31" mud terrains in his garage. He actually got me started in the whole lifted truck thing. As soon as he gets a new trans and heads for his Ranger we'll start doing some off roading.

I love the grille, it gives the truck some much needed character. I've got a driver's side door to replace, some dents to take out, and of course new tires plus a spare. Then I can go get it painted, prolly a matte black for the time being......

Does anyone know a good way to remove the door panels? I got one 99% of the way off, but I can't figure out how to get the window crank off. Also the dash pad, I wanna get in there to reconnect the speakers......

You need one of these to remove the window crank. You push it in between the handle and the door panel and push out the small clip that holds the crank to the regulator. You should be able to pick one up at any parts store.

As for the dash pad, I think you have to remove the whole dash. I've been down that road, but it's been a long time and I just don't remember for sure.

Ahh gotcha. Yeah I tried to just spin it out of the way as best I could but all I succeeded in doing was marking up the door panel. It's not a tremendous deal anyway, I intend to repaint them when I change my interior color. To what I don't know as of yet, I'm planning on swapping the seats out for buckets and a console from a K5 so whatever color they end up being. I'm gonna go with the Blazer seats because they fold to get access behind them instead of the ones from the Suburbans. Then I'm planning on putting some kind of cargo net back there to make full use of that little "garage shelf" behind the seats. I love that little shelf, so good for holding things like a toolbox, collapsible chairs, lanterns, etc......
