Newby

Good morning. I am new on the board and I have already gained so much from all of you. I have just inherited a 1965 from my father in law. He has had the truck since about 1969 and it was his baby. It was in great shape until about 5 years ago when it was given to his great-grand son when he graduated high school. Well, he had big plans for it so he took it apart and then let it sit. It’s not in great shape now but it is still almost rust free and he still has all of the parts (but they are in the bed and been exposed to the weather). It is currently in southern MO and I live in the panhandle of FL so it is going to be a haul. Planning on picking it up in the next couple of months (Nov is the target). It’s a long way to go to pick it up but there is no way I am going to let that truck rot or leave the family. Hopefully I’m not being too stupid about it.

Re: Newby

Welcome and nice truck. Looks like someones worked on it before and converted it to 5 lug (front end at least). Looks like most of the parts are in the bed...can't see front fenders, but they may be hidden.

What are your plans for it? And the front floor mat is worth keeping....they aren't being reproduced right now.

Re: Newby

Thanks. I'm thinking of trying to put it back stock an the moment. It was every unexpected but a great surprise so wasn't thinking what to do with it until yesterday. I had a 65 stepside that my dad traded a calf for when I was 12 that I learn to drive in. I think I'll search this site more and see what kind of ideas I can steal from you guys. Thanks in advance.

By the way, all of the fenders and grill are located in the bed.

Re: Newby

Welcome to the forum

Definitely a truck worth saving and fixing. It looks like the 'great-grandson' changed the front suspension, crossmember and all, to a disc brake suspension and brakes.

Re: Newby

Automatic and big back window, neither of which is common. Great truck!

Sure is a shame how it got treated by the great-grandson, but still in better shape than most.

Re: Newby

Very nice truck. A lot of good work done already with the 5 lug and there is also another automatic trans there. If the engine is toast and with the truck this far apart it would be a good candidate for an LS swap. It is a very economical swap when you start looking at the cost of rebuilding older stuff.

Re: Newby

Thanks for all of the reponses. I can't wait to get it home and see what needs to be done. I just heard from my 86 yr old father in law and he is so happy that I am taking it on.
