oil level too full?
Stupid question.
I just changed my oil. Used the full size longer wix filter and 5 quarts of oil. The dipstick is showing between 1/2 to 1 quart overfull. What's going on here? On my last oil change, I used the shorter filter and 4.5 quarts and it was dead on full. Any thoughts?

Re: oil level too full?
I take it that you have started it since you changed the oil? Sounds like a silly question I know, but if you have not started it then the oil is not in the filter yet.
If you have started it, then did the cap in the top of the dipstick slide up for some reason?

Re: oil level too full?
Yeah I started it already. And no the dipstick doesn't look like the handle moved at all.

Re: oil level too full?
I am thinking the dip stick tube is wrong.

Re: oil level too full?
Come to think of it, it seemed like I was about 1 quart short on the oil that drained out when I changed the oil. I was on a slight incline (very, very minimal) but I don't think it was enough to leave 1 quart still in the pan. If it is really 1/2 to 1 quart overfull, what kind of damage could that cause?

Re: oil level too full?
I would err on the side of caution. Let a little out while cold, don't ask me why not to let it out hot...
