Anyone have a factory LPG motor?
I've never seen one... different valves, compression ratio, heat shield, and some other changes. But what about the tank, the injection system, the gauge, etc?
Would love to see photos of a factory setup if one has survived!

Re: Anyone have a factory LPG motor?
I don't think I knew such an animal existed, but I would like to see it as well. I have a '61 John Deere 4010 LP tractor and am absolutely sold on propane as a motor fuel. At least for the frequency that I use the tractor, no fuel issues is awesome.

Re: Anyone have a factory LPG motor?
Yes, it's in the options list and is called out as an exception a few times in the shop manual and assembly manual.
I was surprised to see they offered it on multiple motors: 250, 292, and 350. No 400 though. Back in the 80s in Saskatchewan they went crazy for propane. The quasi-socialist government was paying people to convert. I have no idea why. All I remember is you couldn't park them in parkades. Is that a Canadian word? I mean parking garage.

Re: Anyone have a factory LPG motor?
Yeah, my uncle has a 71 or 72, not sure, but it is a Cheyenne, and it has the propane option. He is always telling me it has HARD valves and all this kind of talk. ITs a long bed 1/2 ton, manual with a 350 i believe, nice truck though. Its dark green .

Re: Anyone have a factory LPG motor?
My American Light Duty truck book says that in 71 the LPG engine package option was used in 387 light trucks and 6 vans. In 72 the numbers jump to 1,429 and 9 vans.
It would be nice to have one of these especially a 71. |
