Engine help....Qiuck....Pleeeaase!

I got my truk out today( been about a week since i ran it) to get it ready because school starts tommrow(crap). It cranked up great got down the drive way and to the gas station fine. On the way back i open her up and it started backfiring and tryed to cut off. I cleaned the gas filter(inline), drove it down the road and it wount stop backfiring when i give it gas. I recently moved the gas tank to the rear, so could it be that my fuel pump is not strong enough(common one from Napa). Could it be the sparkplugs?I am lost.

Sorry for the long post but i dont know what to do i dont want to get to school in the truck and have it backfire and cut off( I am trying to look cool.LOL)

So please any suggestions or info would be great.

Eric

HAs anyone messed with the plug wires? Double check them for proper fireing order.
Jewels will agree with this.

Do you by chance have an eletric fuel pump on the truck? and if so you may need to try and get it as close to the relocated fuel tank as possible, as they seem to push fuel better than they pull it, other than that I'm with longhorn your plug wires may be out of order.

Have you checked your fuel filter ?

Have you checked the timing? I had a friend that got on his truck and it stretched the timing chain and broke a few teeth. would not stop backfiring cause it was out of time now. don't know if this is your problem but it could be a quick check with a timing light.

i had a simular thing happen, don't know if you have the same problem or not.
i had been driving my truck around every day. no problems whatsoever. one morning i jumped in the old truck and started down the road and the truck seems sluggish, no power, when you get on the gas pedal it would backfire and seemed like it was not firing on all six cylinders. i changed the fuel filter, same thing.
idled fine so i checked the timing, no problem,
changeds the cheep piece of crap plug wires that i was running and presto.... every thing runs great again.

My brother-in-law had a similar problem. His K5 would cough through the carb whenever it felt like it, with no rhyme or reason to when it would happen. The timing chain was OK, but he changed it while he was in there. No change. He finally pulled off the valve covers (like I told him at the first) and found a pushrod had punched through a rocker!

Backfiring out the intake? or exhaust? Intake backfiring might be a result of timing off kilter. Check the dist. cap, wire locations, plugs etc.

You can wish in one hand and crap in the other.
See which one gets filled first.

My $.02 is with the ignition system recommendations. Seldom does fuel cause a backfire. Spark at the wrong time sure will though. Good luck dude.
