if the firewall still has the factory chalk markings, then it should say Z84 somewhere on there.
Otherwise, it is time to start looking at all the options it has installed...mostly chrome and stainless trim.

I think the acid-test for a CST would be chrome trim on all the Pedals. Customs did not have this and they were not available as a seperate option. You should also have carpet and a front chrome bumper though they could be ordered seperate from the CST. What year CST are we talking about here?

1970 shortbed. Everythings been redone, chromed glovebox, painted firewall, all int. trim, etc. It is heavy optioned, a/c, tilt steering, fact. tach. Just courious more than anything.

Does your truck have the chrome trim that runs under the rear window (it seperates the two tone style paint jobs)???

I believe that this was available only for The CST package (67-70) and the Custom Deluxe and Cheyenne packages (71-72).

I can't swear that this is correct, but I believe the 2-tone paint schemes were a CST/Custom Deluxe/Cheyenne deal only....like trucks that had a white cab top and a different color everywhere else (and/or a white center body strip seperated by upper and lower body mouldings).

Of course, if your truck has been redone from a original 2-tone paint scheme to a solid 1-color scheme the little 'tits' that hold the clips for this piece of trim could have been ground off...so sometimes it is hard to tell.

Maybe some 'ol timers here can confirm this...or straighten me out.

Too bad you no longer have the RPO-Option Sticker...it usually has the RPO code for the trim packages listed right on it.

Ok!

The CST (which became Custom Deluxe and Cheyenne in '71) meant that the truck had a higher level trim package than the 'standard base' trucks.

Does your truck also have the chrome strips in the front and rear window black rubber gasket? (see above pic again for example)

I believe that this was also part of the CST/CD/Cheyenne package.

Still, this is another thing that can be added to a baseline truck...or replaced with a plain ol' black rubber unit...so it is also an 'iffy' clue to go by.

I have a '71 w/ the original Option code sticker intact and a original '71 sales brochure that lists the options that came with the different levels of trim and accessories.

When I bought the truck it had Cheyenne badges on the fenders but someone was dreaming...no headliner trim holes in the roof of the cabin...which was a Cheyenne exclusive (from my research anyway).

My sales brochure says the Custom Deluxe package for '71 has the chrome vent window frames, dual horns, chrome knob package for the interior....and door-operated dome light switches. Fortunately, my truck still had this stuff intact so I was able to figure out that (along with the RPO code Z62 on the sticker) that mine was indeed a CD..not a Cheyenne. But the dead givaway that is was a Custome Deluxe was that it has 'Parchment' colored dashpad and steering intact. In '71 this interior color was only available in the CD and Cheyenne. Cheyenne was the only trim line that offered 'Saddle' interior that year...at least that what mt brochures say.

Maybe someone with a spec sheet or brochure that breaks down the options that came with the different levels of trim for 1970 will respond to this thread.

Also, check on eBay for sales literature pertaining to your year truck (1970). It will provide a wealth of info on specs/options ect in helping you determine which trim level your truck was originally.....providing that all the stuff has not been modded/changed/replaced/ or eliminated by previous owners over the years.

I was going to say it should have a CST badge on the glovebox door but yours has been chromed, so I assume the holes for the badge are filled or glovebox door has come from another truck without the badge. Don't you hate it when people take the "OE" out of the truck? Makes it really hard to ascertain what you have.

CST for 1970 included chrome front bumper, bright lower trim with woodgrain insert, chrome wingvents frames, bright trim in both front and rear window rubbers, bright trim on the head light and wiper knobs, the chrome trim on the pedals, headliner, scrolled vinyl full foam bench seat, (no hounds tooth option for '70) scrolled vinyl door panels with wood trim, cardboard over the fuel tank (carpet covered if equipped with buckets) full floor carpeting, in dash cigar lighter, CST badging on glove box door and on fenders, cargo light over back window, door switches for dome/cargo lights, bright/wood trim on tail gate, bright trim surrounding tail lights and bright trimmed side markers. I am sure I am forgetting some options, but that's what I can think of.
*NOTE* I have seen an all original 69 CST with the base model side markers, no headliner, and quite a few with no cargo light...and all original, however no '70 truck that I have seen was missing CST options.
The trim for the two tone painthad nothign to do with any option package, along with the upper chrome trim. Also the optional guages are not included in any package either. All these options are assumed to be in the cheyenne package which is the same Z84 option code as the CST. The Custom Delux was not the same as CST, it was a step lower.
The CST option could be had with any engine combo, in step, fleet, and even cab/chassis models, along with Blazers and Burbs, in both 2 wheel drive, and 4X4.I'll have to look in my restoration catalog and see what options I forgot.

It sounds like the CST was closer to what became the Cheyenne as the Cheyenne had full floor carpeting and a headliner pad...and the Custom Deluxe did not.

Thanks for clearing me up about the paint. I thought the Cheyenne was the only one to have upper and lower side molding with white paint in the center...but I guess that was a seperate option, eh?

Sounds like lomghornmail has pretty well covered most of the Factory CST package, so those are all good things to check.

But, if the truck is totally redone, alot of that could have been added or deleted.

Here's one ALMOST sure fire way to tell an original '70 CST.

Assuming the cab hasn't been swapped, (in that case, originality isn't a concern anymore) it should have a headliner, or at least the trim clip holes for one.

As far as I can tell, '70 was the first year for headliners.
I've seen several '69 CST's, and none had the headliner.

No headliner..............PROBABLY a C-10, or Custom C-10.

Ahh...........another one to ponder! LOL!

I've been through alot of'em and don't recall any '69 CST's with a headliner.
I pay particular attention to all '69 CST's, hoping to find one with a 'liner, because when I finally get around to building mine, I want it to have one.
But, only if I can find living proof it was even available in '69!

Maybe it's another one of those "plant to plant" differences that were common. Or, maybe a few "late build" 69's got the liners!
I need to keep looking! LOL!
