Found one on side of road FS 1968 C20?
I was driving around today and saw a 1968 C20 with a For Sale sign in it. No number or price. So I turned around and went and looked at it and here is what I found:
1968 C20 long bed. Really straight No bondo. VERY MINIMAL rust. Front fenders are in Great condition. Rockers and cab corners rust free. Bed and wheel tubs rust free. Inner front fenders rust free. Only rust I found was on the lower door seal. Doors are also rust free. The steering wheel has been replaced with a smaller one (aftermarket) Seat in perfect condition (may not be original) Dash in excellent shape. Light green with white top. Metal door panels. Engine is a 350. Aluminum intake. Edlebrock carb. Headers. Truck may have been repainted some time ago. Engine, inner fenders, M/C have been painted to match the truck. The core support was also once painted same light green, but has sense been painted black. FACTORY TACH Well without a number or price, I started knocking on doors. Finally found the owner of the truck. He doesn't know much about the truck as he said his son bought it to commute back and forth to work. So started asking the normal questions such as does it run, anything wrong with it, and so forth. The old couple started it for me which started very well and took me for a ride. Truck runs awesome and drives very well. Got back to there place and I noticed that the cab and bed have lower trim, but the fenders don't. I asked them what year the cab was. They said the title says it's a 1969 C20 although it has a 1968 front clip on it. So the truck is actually a 1969 with a factory tach and a 68 front clip. I asked them about a price and they said $3k. They said they are pretty firm on it as well. They told me they have a CL add, but after numerous attempts of looking, I have yet to find they're add. Once I find it, I'll post it on this thread. I wish I had the money for, but with an upcoming surgery on Oct. 1st, my funds are pretty tied down. I thought I'd just post it on here in case someone is looking for an almost original truck. I'd hate to see another good ol' truck get wasted. Someone needs to get it. If anyone has questions about it, it's not to far from me so I can go look at it again. I can also get the guys number for anyone as well. |

Since I can't edit it, the paint is Not shinny. It's original and faded, but I think with a good buff job, it could be shinny again.
I tried asking the couple if they needed $3k worth of work done for them in trade, but they are retired and said they don't need anything done. |

Re: Found one on side of road FS 1968 C20?
It's a c-20 long bed = parts truck ,Not worth much to drive or rebuild , the c-20 kills it and the long bed just adds the knife to the back . $2,000.00 if it's really clean .I know there are lot of guy's who like them but the value is just not there ... Sad ......

I don't know what the motivations here are, obviously I don't know or that statement would have made sense. I fiddle with my truck and pay for NOS parts not because I see some future payoff. I do all this for my truck because I love the truck: how it looks, because it's old, I grew up in it, etc. So you're out of work? I'm sorry, been there and done that, if you want the truck you'll figure a way around that. $3,000? Is it a stepside? I LIKE the 3/4 ton trucks but for me it's not to run around to shows with, just not something I'm really motivated by. It's great if others want to do that and God bless them and I hope they win. I'd like my truck to look nice but it's still a truck. I'm going to be hauling stuff with mine. Long-wheel base? I WISH my truck was a long-wheel base. If I get another one it's going to be a long bed. Shoot man, what's the number to this truck? Maybe I'll call 'em. (Although driving across country in a rental car to bring a truck back either driving or towing it on another rented rig isn't exactly practical for me but neither was buying that Russian VEPR 12 shotgun just because O. banned their import. I doubt I ever shoot the thing). |

I guess these models of trucks aren't for everyone and I respect that, but not all parts of the world sell rust free trucks. |

I've owned both SWB and LWB as daily drivers. I'll take a LWB any day

He's asking for advice and you're giving it and no doubt you have a lot more experience than I do when it comes to the values of these trucks. |

Re: Found one on side of road FS 1968 C20?
Well , There you go the owners dropping the price and I would bet he would take $2,000.00 for it if someone waved the $100's in front of his face. Don't take it wrong I like some long beds but the masses want short bed trucks to cruise in thats why their value is higher than the long beds and one of the main reasons the old truck /muscle car market is high is because of the costs to rebuild a quality old truck have risen and if your paying someone/shop and not doing it yourself it's less costly to buy a finished truck.I used to be able to buy all the supplies to paint a truck for less than $200.00 now it can cost over $2,000.00 and thats just supplies around here a good restoration paint job goes for $5,000.00 and up and there are more than a few guys building show cars/trucks (for customers) working in their home based shops with just 1 helper to keep costs down and not pay rent on a big shop or a bunch of employees and all the costs that go with it .there's a big difference between building a truck yourself and paying someone else to build it for you.The fall Pigeon Forge rod run is this next week The 11ht 12thand 13th and there will be thousands of cars/trucks for sale from trailer queens to parts trucks on a trailer and many guys around here build cars and trucks just to sell at the spring and fall rod runs there are people already there just to hold a parking spot and it's 5 days away ...

Re: Found one on side of road FS 1968 C20?
I saw that one for sale the other day and thought it was a good deal for someone wanting a truck like that. I do agree if you went to the sellers home with 2000.00 in 100's you'd probably own it.

I guess its all in what you want. I know short beds are desirable but personally I wouldn't own a truck that wasn't a long bed and at least a 3/4 ton. If its a truck and it lives here it has to earn its keep. If I need to drive something frilly I'll take my car. lol

Re: Found one on side of road FS 1968 C20?
It runs and it's rust free with no mechanical issues , I would think it's worth 2500, maybe 3000. I'd buy it and start looking for a front cap. Drive it till I found one and be happy.
