How wide are the metal strips?

We are going to attempt to make our own bed wood this weekend and we are also kicking around the idea of using some flat strips for the metal strips.

How wide are the original metal strips that hold the wood down? We will be using the board dimensions from GMC Pauls page which are original specs. We need to know how wide the metal needs to be in between the wood.

Thanks.

This is what I did. I Used s/s 1 1/2" (I think) strips and some #2 pine boards I had kicking around. Came out pretty well, I like the look

Nice. We want to have the same look and spacing as stock but with some flat bar maybe. I'd like to know the stock metal's width so it will work with all the other measurements.

Re: How wide are the metal strips?

Anyone know the measurements of the real metal strips for holding down the wood?
