Moving crossmember ahead?

Hi Guys,

I'm debating whether on not to replace the front suspension in 63 C10 with a 73-87 setup.

I've heard of people moving the crossmember ahead 1" to center the wheel in the fender opening. I've done some searching but haven't been able to find anything. Can someone point me to a thread?

What I was wondering, is what happens with the motor mounts? Does the engine & trans move ahead too? Not a big deal I guess if I need to fab a driveshaft already.

Do aftermarket crossmembers have this 1" forward move built-in?

I think I read here somewhere you can buy upper and lower control arms that will move the wheels ahead 1 ".....I'm not sure where I read it though..maybe someone else will

Lots of people move just the lower arm forward to give the truck more caster and to help center the wheel in the opening. Kind gets two birds with one stone if you care about making it drive a little nicer. More caster is one way to add trail and that will help the wheels "self center" and feel nice at high speeds. It also sort of turns into camber when cornering so the contact patch of the tire can do it's thing a little better.

I think porterbuilt sells that type of upper control arm. I would not bother with putting in a new cross member unless you want to lay frame.
