Gas line routing for relocated tank
I have finished install of the relocated tank (under bed) in our 56.
I have just purchased some steel fuel line to run from the tank up to the front of the truck. I have 3/8" steel tube. Chassis is standard except for Jag IFS Before I start just thought I would ask how others have done this. What path have you taken with tube? How have you secured the pipe?

Re: Gas line routing for relocated tank
I ran mine up the passenger side frame rail, keeping the rubber tubing to a minimum. It took a while, but I think it was worth it. I secured the tubing to the frame with p clamps, the kind with the rubber isolators. I used bolts with nylon nuts to secure the clamps to the frame. Probably overkill, but oh well. I'm running a small block V8 with a mechanical fuel pump (passenger side).

Re: Gas line routing for relocated tank
On the '58 we did, my guy just ran the fuel line down the inside of the frame on the passenger side. He did this because it's the side of the truck the engine mounted fuel pump was on and it was easier to route the line to that side back at the tank than to cross over at any other point.
Not quite sure(CRS), but I think he used these adel clamps http://www.allensfasteners.com/detai...oduct_ID=52000 with the rubber lining along with machine screws and nuts to secure the line.

All the clamps are held with rivet nuts and stainless screws.

Re: Gas line routing for relocated tank
Hey, that tank looks vaguely familiar. Did the same as above but made a bulkhead fitting for the transition from flex to 3/8 hard line and incorporated a fuel filter. Made my own clamps from aluminum stock because I could and it fit my theme but I got a clamp in a car show goodie bag a couple of weeks ago from a place called "made4you". Go to their web site. Very slick and decent price. Adel clamps are my other go to clamp but it kinda depends on how classy you want the chassis. Will say the nut-serts or riv-nuts are the slickest thing since beer and since buying the kit I never use sheet metal screws for anything. Because I'm using EFI, I finished with braided line to the throttle bodies.

I've got that tank because of you. It's perfect for these trucks.
Yes, I love the rivet nuts. Between 2 projects, I've about worn out my tool. I've probably set a couple of hundred with it. |

Re: Gas line routing for relocated tank
Agree on tank especially for EFI apps. Don't know why it's not more popular. Maybe because it's more pricey than some or that it only holds 17 gallons but at my age, I gotta pee way before I need to stop for gas.

Re: Gas line routing for relocated tank
It's from Tanks, Inc.
http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/pa...prod/prd73.htm It's perfect for those that don't want to fill from the bed. What I did for my fill was to cut out the original flange in the cab and found a place on the rear fender with a similar curve and welded the flange in there. I also tucked this tank in up as high as I could for clearance: |

Re: Gas line routing for relocated tank
One other advantage that may be important to some is it gives you enough room to run tail pipes out the rear to the bumper for those who are tired of the in front of the rear wheel noise on long cruises. I MUST be getting old. I never thought I would be one saying that.

Re: Gas line routing for relocated tank
Mine, mechanical fuel pump, inline filter, 3/8 line. Were it goes thru a crossmember the line is wrapped with rubber hose. It is supported with the rubber lined P clamps.
