Headlights not aligned right?

Guys, I'm wondering if I may have defective bulbs, but I cant seem to find any straight answers about this situation.

I recently replaced my headlights with Sylvania stock replacements. I noticed though, that when I switch from low beams to high beams, the pattern moves up, but also to the left, thus blinding drivers.

I was under the impression that the pattern should move up only.

Am I losing my mind?

Have you had the headlights adjusted?

Yes. Got the low beams adjusted correctly, but when you change to high beams they move up and to the left

Re: Headlights not aligned right?

They may have been manufactured incorrectly. Although I have a four bulb system, I had this same issue with Sylvania bulbs, which is why I don't use them anymore.

On the lamps I had, when they were manufactured the silvering process inside the reflector wasn't centered in the glass. although the bulbs were aligned with professional equipment off the nubs on the front of the lens, the light beams did not project straight out the front of the lens. I had to realign them on the garage door instead to get them close to pointing the light in the correct direction. With only two bulbs, it's probably not a silvering problem, more likely the high beam filaments are mounted incorrectly inside the lamp. I no longer trust their sealed beams, and I've never had this problem with any other brand.

thanks. I did think this was the case.

I knew I wasn't going crazy because I told myself so, and I always mostly listen to myself. And I Wouldn't lie to myself.

thanks for the confirmation!

Re: Headlights not aligned right?

Why are you using high beams with oncoming traffic anyway?

I bet you have the lights aimed too far to the left overall so the highs don't go straight ahead. Each brand is a little different but many have quite a difference L to R between beams. Lows are supposed to be biased to the right with a dark upper left corner to reduce glare for oncoming traffic. If you aim the lows so they light up the whole road you will have highs that go left.

Parts of the highways here in Salt lake are not well lit, and while driving at night, they require heavy use of the high beams

I will take a look at that. I tried to find a balanced center between the high and low beams, but when I have the low beams moved over, i can't see down the road propery. I will take some pictures here shortly and post them tonight.

I agree. They move up and to the left.
What good is high beam if it doesn't increase the visibility.

Re: Headlights not aligned right?

Ok, well if that be the case, am I supposed to split the difference?

Re: Headlights not aligned right?

I think high beams should be centered on the road, so slightly to the left since we drive on the right. Where the lows fall is going to be a result of how the manufacturer laid out the reflector and filaments.

Figuarus.
I just ran across a thread called Headlight Adjustment.
It will be close to the top of the message board.
