Truck sags 1/2" to the drivers side
My 67 swb has a 2" drop spindle tube a arms (all brand new bought by the p.o.) she only has a cab on it. Any ways I noticed the cab was leanon so I started measuring from the frame and it's sagging. I got 1/4" sag from tires but that other 1/4 I haven't figured out yet.. Any ideas on how to see if my frame is bent?

You sure it's not all from tires?
My dd has 3 215/35 and 1 225/35 and I feel like I'm sitting sideways on Mt. Everest...even with elevel. |

Ohh, maybe it's just shock/coil related unless those are brand new?

Can you just swap the tires left and right to test your theory?

Measure from the frame. Body mounts can sag a lot. Keep in mind these old work horse have been through a lot. 1/2 inch frame twist is not excessive.

If you can see a half inch of sag anywhere with the naked eye... you got good eyes.

Re: Truck sags 1/2" to the drivers side
Ahahah already went over the big girlfriend thing! 1/2" is actually pretty noticeable when all you got is a cab on. I don't have shocks on and coilsin the front are new. I did measure from the frame that's how I got my measure ments. Yes I can switch tires this week end

Re: Truck sags 1/2" to the drivers side
When measuring do I just put it up on jack stands and away I go? If it is bent how do I go about fixing it? Should I fix it?

You stated that you measured from the frame, and that you she has only a cab on her. So, I assume you measured the rear of the cab, from the frame, side to side. If that's the case, take a measurement on the gap between the upper cab mount surfaces and the lower cab mount surfaces (lower mount brackets). If the mounts prove to be different thicknesses, and they look cracked and weathered, replace both the cab mounts and the core support mounts. Check for bent metal damage in the areas where the cab mounts contact the bottom channels of the cab floor and for rust weaknesses. Have you measured from a flat pavement to the fender opening on the front yet? I would advise you not to make any spring/suspension changes until you put on whatever bed you plan to use. |

Re: Truck sags 1/2" to the drivers side
Cooreman, try googling "Chevy Lean". Its a normal thing. Silverados, S-10s and C-10s all do it. If you are only leaning 1/4 inch, I would be thankful an leave it alone.

Re: Truck sags 1/2" to the drivers side
Didn't even know that existed ahah! Maybe I'll check the torque on my ball joints and see if they are even. After that I'll quit caring

Frame to ground? Frame to cab? I assumed frame to cab (because you said your cab was leaning). Others assumed frame to ground (otherwise you would not be including tire sag), and that is probably where you measured. Frame twist is common, and mount sag is common, and spring sag is common. I doubt you can fix frame twist without spending thousands of dollars, and if your wheels are aligned and if your cab mounting is good and no spring sag, I'd consider shimming if you need to eliminate whatever sag you have if your doors open and close and seal the wind in well. Keep in mind do you want it to measure level with you in it, or without you in it? Again, I urge you to put your bed on it first. Measuring the difference side to side- Measure the frame to ground. Measure the frame to cab. Measure the cab to ground. The cab to ground (side to side) should equal the other measurements added or subtracted together. In other words, if the frame sags from the ground 1/2" on the left, and the cab sags from the frame 1/2" on the right, the cab should measure level from the ground. If the frame sags from the ground 1/2" on the left, and the cab sags from the frame 1/2" on the left, then the cab should sag 1" to the left. If this does not compute, the cab is tweaked. You WILL get to the "bottom" of it. Pun intended. |

Re: Truck sags 1/2" to the drivers side
The only time mine doesn't lean is when I've been drinking. Gotta love a Chevy Lean!
