Correct GMC interior color ...

I am working on a 62 GMC Suburban.

I must be color blind, or I have been staring at it too long, but is it suppose to be Fawn or some sort of Silver ?

The dash top is like a Blue color, was this stock ?

My other Burban, also a 62 GMC looked to have a Black dash top.

Someone had post a rattle can similar to Fawn.

Currently, I am working on my Auto column, disassembly, blasting, and now needs paint.

Any ideas ??

Re: Correct GMC interior color ...

I have a 1962 GMC 3/4 ton pickup with what appears to be the same blue on the top of the dash. I have also seen pictures of other original 62 GMC's with the blue dash. An old paint chip book would probably show it with the interior colors.
It's a very good looking color in my opinion.

Chief, I am not sure on the blue dash, but from what I have read, the tops of the dash were charcoal in GMC's, while the rest of the interior is silver. I know NOTHING about the suburbans though. May be different.

See post #65 on my build for pics of my dash.

I started painting in my interior using the Nickel color. Looks pretty close to me.

1960-1961 were Silver with gray dash top interiors. 1962-1966 were Fawn . The 1962 Im pretty sure was the last year for two tone dash in Fawn/Turquoise or Fawn Gray dash. The Turquoise you have on your dash also signifies Turquoise trimmed seats . Standard fawn seats had a gray dash top.

Re: Correct GMC interior color ...

Ahhh, thanks 60-66 !!

Currently, I am rebuilding the steering column before I mate it to the B-body frame.

It's an auto column that appears to be silver ... Should it be fawn ??

Re: Correct GMC interior color ...

Yes, it should be the fawn color to match the rest of the interior. Many times these colors sun fade or get washed out from to strong of a cleaner. The Krylon Fawn is close but its off from factory to be 100% . I used it on the firewall of my 1963 and it looks good, then I painted a few interior pieces and there its noticeably off.

You sure have one ambitious project going there on your burb putting that other frame under it. But I'm tuned in with interest. Keep up the fine work !!

Re: Correct GMC interior color ...

Thanks 60-66,

I figured it was a no brainer going this route, rather than stuffing the LT1/4l60 into the xframe, and still have to modernize the suspension
