Shift indicator cable
The orange (used to be orange, I think) shift indicator on my '67 c10 was cracked so I took it off to see if I could repair. And it looks like it has a cable attached. And maybe the cable was snapped. I see Amazon sells shift indicator cables but not sure they're function or what they attach to. I included a picture. Any help is appreciated.

Re: Shift indicator cable
It's a fiber optic line, it's broken. It should run down the column and into the back of the instrument cluster where it plugs into one of the bulbs. It illuminates the pointer

Re: Shift indicator cable
Thanks! so the bulb is in the instrument cluster ... and not the shift indicator. I didn't see a bulb or anything that could hold a bulb in the indicator but figured its worth asking. Will check it out tonight.

Here is what the whole assembly looks like.... The light socket should be right beside the speedometer on the left side. LockDoc

Re: Shift indicator cable
I agree with all of the above. If you need a new housing for that, lots of 70's and early 80's GM vans had the exact indicator. I snagged a few while looking for a tilt column a few years ago.

Re: Shift indicator cable
Is that the left side of the instrument panel from the front or rear? When I restored my dash I couldn't remember which socket the bulb went to, I think I just put the optic bulb in a socket the fiber optic line would reach. Thanks!

Re: Shift indicator cable
Thanks everyone. So I need to remove the instrument panel to plug in the fiber optic line?
